$48,671.20 - $60,839.00JOB SUMMARY
JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, coordinates, develops, and trains staff engaged in the care and maintenance of golf course grounds and park sites; operates specialized equipment necessary for the maintenance of golf course grounds. Responsible for the development and supervision of the maintenance of golf course greens, tees, fairways, and related areas within the confines of the adjacent roads and/or fences.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Coordinate, develop and train staff engaged in the care and maintenance of golf course grounds and park sites.
- Provide management with recommendations regarding subordinates' performance evaluations.
- Plan, organize and direct maintenance and construction projects which result in major physical changes to the course including, but not limited to installing and maintaining irrigation systems, rebuilding tee boxes, servicing equipment, conducting inspections to determine the need for fertilizing, seeding, sodding, watering, and cutting of grass, identifying problems and initiating appropriate measures to prevent damage to turf.
- Inspect course to determine need for redesign of course to improve playability, which includes faster play and fewer obstructions for optimum customer service.
- Prepare annual budget and surcharge program, requisition supplies and materials, maintain accurate records, and monitor expenditures.
- Plan, schedule, and supervise employees engaged in the golf course maintenance activities including but not limited to mowing, tree trimming, top dressing, spiking, verticutting, and fertilizing
- Maintain records on chemical applications, fuel usage, equipment maintenance, turf maintenance practices, etc., and prepare reports as requested.
- Determine construction, maintenance and repair related requirements for park and golf course amenities including but not limited to shelters, buildings, greens construction, cart path and bunker construction
- Determine materials needed and oversee crews or private contractors assigned to project.
- Operate specialized equipment necessary for the maintenance of golf course grounds including but not limited to mowing equipment, chemical sprayers, backhoe, front end loader, various implements utilized in the care of large turf grass areas
- Maintain and perform minor adjustments to equipment.
- Determine, oversee, and perform landscape management tasks for turf grass areas.
- Design landscape features, install and care for plant materials including flowers, trees, and ground cover.
- Apply prescribed amounts of fertilizer, herbicides and fungicides to plant materials and turf grasses.
- Design, install and maintain irrigation systems utilizing large turf heads, piping, and computerized irrigation control units.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Perform the work of subordinates such as spraying pesticides, operating machinery, performing minor mechanical adjustments to pump station, timing devices, equipment repair, etc. as required or needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of office and administrative practices and procedures.
- Skill in using PC Software including current Microsoft Office Suite of applications.
- Knowledge of construction, establishment and maintenance practices employed on golf. course greens, tees, fairways, etc.
- Knowledge of fungicides, growth regulators, insecticides, and other pesticides to be applied to trees, shrubs, and plants and the timetable of application.
- Skill in communicating with other city employees and the public by oral and written means.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of park facility construction. Skill in the recognition of insects and plant diseases.
- Ability to diagnose plant problems and prescribe recommendations to solve problems.
- Ability to coordinate the activities of a small crew.
- Ability to determine irrigation system needs, including installation, operation, and repair.
- Ability to train and develop employees engaged in the care and maintenance of parks, golf courses and building landscapes.
- Ability to design, install and maintain landscape features including flowers, shrubs, trees, and ground cover.
- Ability to determine chemical application needs, rates, and equipment.
- Ability to implement a complete tree maintenance program including planting, care, and pruning/removal procedures.
- Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent to lifting up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including but not limited to seeing, stooping, twisting body, carrying, lifting, cleaning, writing, and pushing.
- Ability to operate a variety of equipment including but not limited to lawn mower, hand tools, chemical sprayer, large tractor, backhoe, and specialized golf course equipment.
- Ability to operate a motorized vehicle.
Qualifying Education and Experience:
- Associate's degree in Turfgrass management or related field or equivalent experience.
- Two (2) years of experience in the maintenance and management of golf course operations or related field which include agronomic plans, irrigation, equipment, and facilities.
- Possession of a valid Texas Class “C” driver’s License.
- Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide applicators license or the ability to obtain within 3 months.
