Description
The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) is a dedicated museum that showcases the exquisite artefacts from Palace Museum’s collections and collaborates with other museums in research, exhibitions, education and public programmes. The museum comprises 7 800 square metres of gallery space for standing and special exhibitions on Palace Museum’s collections of paintings, calligraphy, antiquities and historical objects, as well as thematic displays on world cultures and civilisations.
(This is a fixed-term contract position of 2-year with possibility for renewal subject to organisational needs and individual performance.)
You will be responsible for:
- assisting the Community and Engagement unit of the Learning and Engagement Team to support the development and implementation of learning programmes, including but not limited to outreach and in-museum workshops, talks, demonstrations, group visits, and educational resources, for a wide range of audiences;
- contributing to the content development, administration and operation of an outreach programme funded by an external sponsor in particular;
- assisting to research, develop and implement interpretive strategies that enhance users’ learning experience in the outreach learning activities;
- preparing and compiling reports and budgets, conducting participant evaluation and data analysis, and monitoring project progress;
- communicating effectively with all levels in and out of the organisation, including community groups, education institutions, sponsors, and other key stakeholders, and building a strong relationship with them;
- managing the promotion and documentation of the programme, including but not limited to drafting and editing promotional writings, arranging photography and videography;
- Working closely with curatorial, learning, and design teams to develop interpretive materials—such as guides and interactive elements—that enhance accessibility and relevance for diverse audiences; and
- performing any duties from time to time as reasonably as assigned by HKPM.
You should:
- possess a recognised university degree, preferably in cultural management, performing arts, education, Chinese art, history, museum studies, conservation or equivalent;
- preferably have a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in learning, interpretation, or community engagement programmes in a performing art, cultural or educational organisation;
- possess the ability to work across the whole range of audiences and act as a bridge between the Museum and the public;
- have strong skills in content development, interest and curiosity for Chinese art and culture, or museum learning;
- be proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and familiar with project or event management;
- ensure effective planning, implementation and coordination of a range of events and activities within the team;
- possess good leadership capability and attributes and positive attitude;
- be self-motivated and able to work independently and cooperatively with others in a fast-paced environment;
- be highly organised, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple learning projects concurrently;
- be able to work on irregular work hours including weekends, evenings and holidays if necessary for supporting the events; and
- have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Chinese.
