The Director, Markeing Sourcing is a senior player-coach role responsible for leading and executing end-to-end sourcing activities across the company’s Marketing spend portfolio (~$1.5B). Reporting to the vice president of Indirect Sourcing within the Global Supply Chain Organization. This leader is accountable for delivering measurable cost savings, robust contract structures, and supplier relationships that directly enable the company’s marketing and business strategy.

The Director is expected to lead a high-performing sourcing team while personally executing on the most complex, high-value, and strategically sensitive sourcing initiatives. Success in this role requires deep category expertise (especially in the areas of media and agency relations), executive presence, commercial sharpness, organizational credibility, and the ability to operate effectively at the intersection of procurement and marketing in a fast-moving environment. As a service provider to the Marketing organization, it’s critical to establish strong relationships at all levels and develop a deep-rooted understanding of their strategies and business needs.

As the Director, Marketing Sourcing, you will…

  • Lead strategic sourcing and negotiations across media and agency platforms, ensuring partnerships deliver measurable business value, transparency, and performance. You’ll work closely with Marketing, Finance, Legal, Operations, and external partners to drive smarter investments and stronger outcomes.
  • Structure and negotiate complex agency and platform agreements, including fees, incentives, performance guarantees, and commercial terms.
  • Support transformation initiatives and evolving commercial models across the marketing ecosystem.
  • Serve as a strong commercial counterbalance and trusted advisor to marketing stakeholders.

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • 10+ years of experience with deep expertise in the North American agency and media marketplace.
  • Direct, hands-on experience negotiating and managing agency and platform contracts is required.
  • Strong understanding of media agencies, digital media, eCommerce, planning and optimization, data, tools, and measurement.
  • Proven success managing large-scale commercial portfolios and complex negotiations.
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.
  • Strong commercial acumen, strategic thinking, and problem-solving capability.
  • Experience in a global retail, consumer goods, or similarly complex operating environment strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience operating in a matrixed CPO/procurement function with VP-level reporting relationships.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise procurement platforms (ex. Ariba, Jaggaer, or similar)
  • Experience with CLM platforms (Icertis, Ironclad, Agiloft, or similar).
  • Proficiency with spend analytics and BI tools; able to build and interpret data to drive decisions
  • Comfortable operating in an ERP environment (SAP, Oracle); understands procurement-to-pay process flows.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a team of sourcing professionals in a high-accountability environment.
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills; able to present to and influence vp and C-suite audiences.
  • Experience managing stakeholder relationships across functions in a large, complex organization
  • High degree of commercial and ethical judgment.

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
