Description
This position serves under a 10-month contract each year, with approximately 9 months’ service during the standard academic year and the 10th month’s service during June/July for scheduled domestic and/or international study trips and associated administrative duties.
UMHB seeks faculty who are active Christians and dedicated teacher-scholars to prepare students for leadership, service, and faith-informed discernment in a global society. The Doctor of Education program began in 2007, emphasizing educational leadership in P-12 and Higher Education. Through a cohort model where networking and learning opportunities extend beyond the classroom, the program seeks to shape the hearts and minds of professionals leading our educational institutions.
UMHB is conveniently located in Belton, a historic town of 22,000 in the heart of central Texas. Nearby cities are Temple (5 miles), Waco (45 miles), Austin (65 miles), San Antonio (130 miles) and Dallas/Ft. Worth (130 miles). Excellent schools, abundant cultural and recreational opportunities, and a high quality of life are hallmarks of the local community.
Faculty Responsibilities: Activities required of all faculty include exemplary teaching, curriculum development, student advising; professional attainment; and service to department, college, university, and the community.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Teach learner-centered graduate and undergraduate courses (including online instruction as well as face-to-face) related to one or more of the following:
- Educational Leadership
- Curriculum
- Research
- Serve as Director of the Doctor of Education Program, performing assigned administrative tasks.
- Coordinate the recruitment of new EdD Students.
- Coordinate advising for EdD students within the program.
- Assign and oversee dissertation committees. Incumbent responsibility includes serving as committee chair on a minimum of 6 dissertation committees per academic year.
- Travel for state, national, and international study trips.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Must be an active and committed Christian who will support the University’s mission and be an active participant in a local church.
- Doctorate from an accredited institution with an area of emphasis, specialization, or professional experience in educational leadership.
- Valid teaching certificate and a minimum of three (3) years of successful K–12 experience.
- Must agree to the University’s Employee Statement of Understanding.
Preferred:
- Valid principal and/or superintendent certificate and a minimum of three years of successful K-12 leadership experience.
- Experience in higher education.
- Experience working with both quantitative and qualitative dissertations.
