Description
We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Lambeth to assist with the appointment of a CIN reviewing officer, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £29.92 - £40.71 per hour
Summary:
The CIN reviewing officer provides independent scrutiny and oversight for Child in Need (CIN) plans under Section 17 of the Children Act 1989. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Safeguarding, you will chair CIN review meetings, monitor case progression, challenge drift or delay, and maintain high practice standards across safeguarding teams. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working as a Service Manager within Family Support and Child Protection (FSCP) Safeguarding.
Responsibilities:
- Chair and facilitate Child in Need review meetings in compliance with statutory guidance and local procedures, keeping the child's voice central to all decisions.
- Provide independent oversight and quality assurance of CIN plans to evaluate if interventions are effectively mitigating risk and improving outcomes.
- Identify and challenge drift or delay in casework, escalating safety concerns or threshold shifts to Child Protection or legal planning when necessary.
- Collaborate multi-agencies (Health, Police, Education, Social Care) to foster constructive professional challenge and ensure active partner contribution to plans.
- Maintain clear, accurate, and timely electronic records, producing review summaries and management reports within required statutory timescales.
- Contribute to quality assurance, audits, and service development initiatives to embed best practice across safeguarding services.
Qualification:
- Recognised Social Work Qualification (Degree in Social Work, DipSW, CQSW, or equivalent).
- Active registration with Social Work England (or relevant professional regulator).
Essentials:
- Previous experience operating at a Service Manager level within FSCP (Family Support & Child Protection) Safeguarding.
- Significant post-qualifying experience in children's social care, including safeguarding and complex CIN casework.
- Extensive experience chairing professional multi-agency meetings, case reviews, or quality assurance/auditing processes.
- Expert knowledge of the Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and relevant child protection legislation.
- Strong analytical, communication, and report-writing skills, with the ability to provide professional scrutiny and constructive challenge.
