Student Opportunity: Immunoassay development in allergy diagnostics
Are you curious about how allergy tests are developed and eager to spend time in the lab?
We are looking for a student to join R&D Allergy during spring 2027 and contribute to assay development for allergy diagnostics. You will work alongside experienced scientists, combining practical laboratory work with experimental planning, data analysis and scientific problem-solving.
Project Overview
Thermo Fisher Scientific in Uppsala is a major ImmunoDiagnostics site with research, development and manufacturing focused on diagnostic solutions for allergy and autoimmune disease.
Within R&D Allergy, the student project will focus on assay development and experimental evaluation of allergy tests, with a strong emphasis on practical laboratory work.
What will you do?
- Plan, perform and evaluate laboratory experiments related to allergy assay development.
- Investigate assay parameters, reagents and experimental conditions as part of assay development.
- Analyze experimental data, document results and discuss findings with the R&D team.
- Work collaboratively with scientists and colleagues in the R&D team.
About You
- You are currently studying a relevant life-science field, such as biotechnology, biomedicine, molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology or bioengineering.
- You have a strong interest in assay technologies, immunoassays and diagnostic test development.
- You enjoy hands-on laboratory work and are motivated by experimental problem-solving.
- You are curious, structured and eager to learn new laboratory methods and ways of working.
- You like combining practical experimental work with data analysis and scientific reasoning.
What You Will Gain
- Hands-on experience of assay development in an industrial R&D environment.
- Insight into the development of in vitro diagnostic tests for allergy.
- Experience in experimental planning, data interpretation, documentation and scientific teamwork.
- The opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues within Thermo Fisher Scientific’s ImmunoDiagnostics organization in Uppsala.
