Description
Description
The ADA Forsyth Institute was founded in 1910 as the Forsyth Dental Infirmary for Children (later, the Forsyth Institute), to provide dental care to the disadvantaged children of Boston. While continuing to serve children in need yet recognizing the ultimate goal is to prevent dental disease, the Institute in 1915 began to focus on scientific research and is today the world’s leader in oral health research. In October of 2023, the Institute joined with the American Dental Association to form the ADA Forsyth Institute, a 501(c)(3) entity dedicated to improving people’s oral and overall health and powering the profession of dentistry through cutting-edge basic research, creative translational science, innovative clinical technologies, and global public health outreach. Consistent with the Institute’s founding mission, the ADA ForsythKids mobile dental program continues to serve children in need.
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow or Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our dynamic, multidisciplinary team focused on advanced biomaterials, tissue engineering, targeted drug delivery and standardized product testing. Priority will be given to candidates with expertise in bone mechanics, nanoparticle synthesis, 3D printing, and the evaluation of oral care products.
The research studies focus on developing innovative biomaterial solutions and nanoparticulate drug delivery systems to promote fracture healing and bone regeneration. Simultaneously, the candidate supports dental product evaluation research by developing and executing evaluation methods for various dental products. Motivated individuals with high enthusiasm to learn and advance the field are encouraged to formally apply (below).
Requirements
Minimum Education & Experience: Master’s degree (M.S.) with a minimum of 3 years of broad experience encompassing bone mechanobiology, nanoparticulate drug delivery, and standard protocol establishment.
- Must-Have: Demonstrated hands-on experience in tissue engineering, specifically with bone mechanical testing and animal handling.
- Must-Have: Expertise in nanoparticle design and synthesis for drug delivery systems.
- Must-Have: Proficiency in analytical techniques such as histology, microCT, and operating mechanical testing equipment.
- Must-Have: Familiarity with 3D printing processes and CAD/CAM software.
- Experience or strong interest in clinical dental applications, specifically developing evaluation methods and test protocols for dental products.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical troubleshooting skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willingness to work in a collaborative environment.
- High motivation and responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. or equivalent in Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomaterials, or a closely related field
- Direct hands-on experience with bone wound healing models or craniofacial biology.
- Direct hands-on experience with various nanoparticle preparation methods and characterizations.
- Advanced background in digital light processing (DLP)/stereolithography (SLA) additive manufacturing technologies.
- Knowledge of standardization frameworks and compliance requirements governed by ISO and ANSI/ADA specifications.
- Experience with hypothesis-driven research projects combining mechanics and biological outcomes.
