Description
Liège, Belgium (on site; relocation welcome) · Full-time, permanent (CDI) · Reports to the Head of Laboratory Operations · Salary: competitive
WHY THIS ROLE EXISTS
We are a small team building a qPCR test that brings precision breast-cancer diagnostics to labs that already own the machines. In our Liège lab, too much of the team's time goes on admin: orders, deliveries, stock, equipment records, paperwork.
You will change that. In your first year, orders, stock, equipment and documentation should run smoothly and simply through you, so that our scientists can focus on science and manufacturing. Success means work visibly taken off the team's plate, and nothing in an audit caused by housekeeping.
WHO WE ARE
Signatur Biosciences is a spin-out from Imperial College London, backed by Y Combinator, with a team of about sixteen in London and Liège. Our first product, OncoSignatur Breast, profiles complex molecular signatures in a single reaction on standard qPCR machines. We work in English, think like owners, move fast, and use AI in every role, every day.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Own goods-in, stock and ordering, end to end. Quotes, orders, deliveries, certificates of analysis, lot numbers, expiry dates, stock levels. Within three months this runs through you.
- Support quality day to day. Write and update procedures, work instructions and forms; check lab records for completeness and traceability; keep training records up to date; help prepare internal and external audits and follow up the actions; log non-conformities and corrective actions. You work with the Head of Laboratory Operations and our regulatory and quality team, under ISO 13485.
- Keep equipment in order. Calibration and maintenance schedules, equipment records, temperature monitoring.
- Make things simpler. Question repeated manual steps and simplify them. Where it genuinely helps, use AI to save time.
A typical week: booking in deliveries and filing their certificates, chasing a supplier, updating stock, checking a batch of lab records, updating a procedure, preparing documents for an audit.
YOU WILL FIT IF
- You have a bachelor's degree in a life-science or laboratory field, from a university or a haute école (for example a bachelier en biologie médicale or en chimie), or an equivalent technician diploma. A master's is not required.
- You use AI well beyond a chatbot. You have set it up for your own work or life: projects in ChatGPT or Claude with your own instructions and files, reusable prompts or skills, connected tools, scheduled tasks, or AI in a code editor or terminal. Personal use counts fully.
- You work comfortably in English, spoken and written: all our documents are in English and half the team does not speak French. You also get by in French, the everyday language of the lab.
- You are organised and conscientious, notice waste, and like making things simpler.
- You learn on your own, without waiting to be asked.
IT WILL HELP IF
- You have worked with stock, orders, suppliers or lab equipment records.
- You know a quality system such as ISO 13485 or ISO 15189, or good documentation practice in a lab.
- You are familiar with qPCR or a molecular biology lab.
- You have experience with computer system validation (CSV).
- You have worked in a start-up or a small, fast-moving team.
THIS JOB IS NOT FOR YOU IF
- You want a bench or assay-development role: this one is operations and quality.
- You prefer the many layers of a large pharma or GMP quality system. We keep quality rigorous and simple.
- You use AI only to ask a chatbot questions now and then.
WHAT WE OFFER
- A competitive base salary, based on experience, with an end-of-year bonus and holiday pay as provided by Belgian law and our sector agreement.
- Statutory paid holidays, plus up to 12 compensatory rest days a year.
- Hospitalisation and outpatient insurance.
- Meal vouchers (€10 per day worked).
- A laptop.
- Real ownership in a small team, and the chance to shape how a diagnostics lab runs.
As we grow, our benefits may evolve. Those above are accurate on the date of posting.
HOW TO APPLY AND WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
- Apply with your CV.
- If your profile fits, we invite you personally to record a short video (about three minutes): how you use AI, and a process you made simpler. It replaces a screening call. Every video is watched by our team, and every decision is made by a person.
- Interview with our CEO (about 45 minutes, online), including a practical scenario.
- Interview in the lab with the team, including a practical exercise.
- Two reference calls, then an offer.
We move as fast as we can, and aim to complete the process within two to three weeks.
