Medical Record SpecialistJob Description
Medical Record Specialists process coding edits and denials, follow up of unbilled accounts, provide transcriptionist assistance and support, monitor and follow-up H&P and OR completion, report, department supply inventory, equipment maintenance and issues, ongoing record review database and reports, FormFast software system and medical record document processing, and ordering of subscriptions and resource materials. Interacts with medical staff, nursing, ancillary departments, provider offices, and outside organizations. Also, responsible for the understanding of the contents of a medical record and the principles of releasing health care information. Processes requests for release of health information, while safeguarding the privacy of the patient. Interacts with medical staff, nursing, ancillary departments, provider offices, and outside organizations.

Location: Onsite in Mattoon
Responsibilities
Answer phone lines andfollow-up requests for
transcription area., Assists with workload
distribution as needed., Correct radiology report based
on questions to Radiologist in
regards to dictation
discrepancies. Corrections are
made in the Radiology DR
system and Meditech system.
Correct Transcriptionist
mistakes on hospital reports in
EMON and Meditech system.
This involves errors found
after a physician has signed a report., Distribution of reports to non-
SBL providers includes faxing,
mailing, and SBL doctor boxes., Faxes Provider offices for
diagnoses that are missing for
tests ordered and for Medical
Necessity diagnoses., Handles equipment issues as needed., Maintains department supply inventory., Maintains Medical Necessity
spreadsheet of tests ordered
by the providers in which a
Medically Necessary diagnosis
is not provided. This
spreadsheet is used to educate the Providers., Monitor pending file in EMON., Orders all subscriptions and
resource materials for coding
and other operations in MRM., Processes coding denials
received from
Medicare/Medicaid and applicable payers., Processes the NEBO Report by
looking for OCE and Medical
Necessity errors and notifying
the appropriate
staff/department’s for
correction. Tracks the
information on a spreadsheet and does follow-up., request Processes patient portal
requests and answers
customer questions., Responsible for copy machine maintenance., Responsible for the FormFast
software system, which
houses all the medical record
documents., Responsible for the Ongoing
Record Review database with updates/revisions., Responsible for the report
creation based on the Ongoing
Record Review by Ongoing
Record Review Team.
