Job Summary
Under the supervision of the genetic counseling team, the Genetic Counseling Assistant provides specialized support to genetic counselors and program physicians in delivering coordinated care to patients and families.Responsibilities include:
-Manage established genetics patient lists and monitor the status of pending clinical workups.
-Review schedules to identify patients who may benefit from prenatal genetic counseling and coordinate communication between referring providers and the genetic counseling team.
-Support the development, implementation, and ongoing coordination of reproductive genetic counseling services.
-Collaborate with laboratories, genetic counselors, clinicians, and other partners to coordinate genetic testing, track results and delays, facilitate referrals, and support sample collection.
-Build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with patients, families, providers, and other members of the care team.
-Contribute to research initiatives, educational programs, and other projects that support the advancement of genetic counseling services.

Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or Genetics preferred

Licenses and Credentials

Experience
1–2 years of experience working with patients, in a medical office, or in a healthcare-related setting preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of medical terminology, medical records, test requisitions, and pathology reports
- Familiarity with community resources available to support patients and families
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on tasks
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Empathetic, patient-focused approach with strong customer service skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with patients, families, providers, laboratories, and members of the care team
