Overview
Incumbents in the Teacher, Early Childhood I or II position provide a stimulating, safe, and developmentally appropriate environment where children have the ability to develop cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. The person selected for the position of an Early Education Teacher will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing an individualized developmentally-based and/or thematic approach curriculum as appropriate. In addition, the Early Ed Teacher is directly responsible for supervising, mentoring, training other teaching staff, practicum students, and program parents to ensure that continuity of quality care and education is maintained according to national accreditation standards. They are also responsible for the general operation of the center should the Director be absent.

Responsibilities
- Facilitates an effective program to meet the physical, social, emotional, language, and cognitive needs of each child based upon sound child development principles.
- Secures the health, safety, welfare, and accountability of children through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space, proper maintenance of equipment, and regular practice of fire and other emergency procedures.
- Ensures that families receive adequate information about their child’s experiences at the center through daily contacts, information letters, and any scheduled teacher/family conferences.
- Conducts ongoing needs assessment of each child and maintains written records and portfolios using our online curriculum to monitor progress in all areas of development and for incorporating into curriculum planning.
- Plans and prepares for, outside of classroom time, individualized and developmentally appropriate materials, activities and experiences required to implement a thematic approach curriculum and establishes daily routines conducive to the optimal growth and development of children.
- Maintains for the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor, and learning environment of all classroom areas and outdoor play areas. Tracks any materials that need replenished and submits purchases requests to Director.
- When applicable, trains and supervises practicum students in such a way that each is actively engaged in meeting the individual needs of each child in all developmental domains.
- Attends and actively contributes to staff planning, training, evaluations meetings, and professional events, serving as a resource person to staff members.
- Creates and maintains Preschool Portfolio according to NAEYC requirements and assists other teachers and Director in the creation and maintenance of other classroom and program portfolios if needed.
- Acknowledges and acts in accordance with the policies and procedures of the center and the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.
- Operates a classroom/program in compliance with all state childcare center licensing standards and NAEYC accreditation criteria.
- Shares in the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the center and performs other classroom or administrative duties, assigned by the Director, deemed necessary for the successful operation of the center program.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
For Level I
- Associates degree or completion of some college or Child Development Associate (CDA) or a timeline plan to acquire one or the other.
- Effective communication skills interacting with children, parents, college students and professional colleagues
- 12 months or more experience with toddlers and preschool age children between the ages of 2 and 6 in an early education setting
- Familiarity with standards of Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP)
For Level II
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Human Development, or related field.
Effective communication skills interacting with children, parents, college students and professional colleagues
12 months or more experience with toddlers and preschool age children between the ages of 2 and 6 in an early education setting
Familiarity with standards of Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Development and Family Studies, Early Childhood/Elementary Education or a related field
- 2 years experience with toddlers and preschool age children within a professional setting
- Familiarity with NAEYC accreditation standards
