Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm

Compensation: $29.00 to $37.00 per hour, based on experience.

Location: Rochester, NY On-Site


Position Overview:

The Optical Manufacturing Technical Leader is responsible for the day-to-day oversight and scheduling of the Fabrication work center of Optical Technologies. This position ensures that all lenses manufactured in the optical technologies department meet all print requirements, are defect free, and production deadlines are met.


Role and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct oversight of assigned Optical Fabrication Technicians, including workforce allocation, while maintaining a 100% on-time job completion rate.
  • Monitor, plan, and execute the inspection and testing of all lens surfaces in the fabrication area ensuring the goal of "all items shall be inspected" is consistently achieved.
  • Perform root cause component level troubleshooting and repair of all equipment in the area. 
  • Provide aid and guidance to the Technicians as required to support their troubleshooting analysis or manufacturing processes.
  • Create and execute a Cross-training program in the area to allow for interchangeable equipment for each Technician with results meeting all requirements.
  • Inspect, test, and configure all inspection equipment including those to inspect surface fit, cosmetics and centration.
  • Identify, document, and work with various cross-functional teams to eliminate quality issues discovered.
  • Collaborate with Production Support group to improve work areas, equipment, test fixturing, and work instructions.
  • Identify and eliminate sources of waste within your area and sphere of influence. Suggest new improved processes, workflows, test protocols, etc. to management to improve efficiency and quality and help meet QVI’s 6S Initiative goals.
  • Daily updates to the Manager and or Director of Optical Technologies on the schedule and maintenance related issues.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: (Experience, Education, Certifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)

  • 2- or 4-year degree in Optical Fabrication, or equivalent military training required.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of QVI service in the Optical Fabrication Department, or equivalent leadership experience from internal or external sources.  
  • Ability to read and understand Lens drawings and the equipment used to manufacture.
  • Excellent communications skills both written and verbal.
  • Able to multitask and perform a variety of functions at a high level with exceptional attention to detail.

Physical and/or Environmental Requirements:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time (8+ hour shift) as needed based on the type of assembly assigned.
  • Ability to lift and move items of up to 25 pounds, independently and safely.
  • Ability to navigate throughout the workplace frequently as needed to assist department team members.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
