Role: Press Supervisor, Flexible Packaging

Location: Sugar Land, TX

Schedule: 24/7/365 Continuous Manufacturing Operation (Overseeing 12-Hour 2/3/2 Rotating Night Shift Team)

Reporting to the Press Manager, This role responsible for directing and leading daily press department operations while ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role provides leadership and oversight to all press team members, including Lead Press Operators, Press Operators and Press Technicians levels. The Press Supervisor is accountable for production performance, quality standards, employee development, safety compliance, scheduling, and continuous improvement initiatives while supporting company goals and operational excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensures all safety policies, procedures, and operational standards are consistently followed throughout the press department.
• Supervises, directs, and coordinates daily activities of all press department personnel to achieve production, quality, and efficiency goals.
• Holds employees accountable to company policies, safety standards, attendance expectations, and production requirements.
• Addresses employee performance concerns through coaching, documentation, corrective action, and performance improvement processes.
• Reviews daily production schedules and prioritizes workflow to maximize efficiency while meeting customer delivery expectations.
• Monitors production performance and drives departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including Safety, Quality, Waste, Productivity, Downtime, OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), and On-Time Delivery, through employee accountability, process improvement, and operational excellence.
• Oversees setup, operation, and changeover activities on all press equipment to ensure compliance with established standards.
• Conducts employee performance evaluations and provides ongoing coaching, development, and performance feedback.
• Partners with Maintenance, Quality, Prepress, Scheduling, and other departments to resolve production concerns and improve operational effectiveness.
• Ensures proper utilization, maintenance, cleaning, storage, and traceability of anilox rolls, sleeves, and press tooling.
• Reviews and analyzes 3DQC reports, print quality data, and process controls to drive continuous quality improvements.
• Monitors press setup expectations, startup efficiencies, run speeds, and waste reduction initiatives to improve overall equipment effectiveness.
• Conducts regular department meetings, safety talks, and employee communications to maintain engagement and accountability.
• Maintains accurate production records, labor reporting, and departmental documentation.
• Leads continuous improvement efforts focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
• Monitors and ensures compliance with established press setup, changeover, waste, and production efficiency standards.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• High School Diploma or GED required; Associates or Bachelor’s degree highly preferred.
• 5+ years’ experience in flexographic printing press operation; 2+ years’ experience in a supervisory capacity in a printing environment.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with a minimum 5 years in a supervisory role overseeing 20 or more front-line employees.
• Extensive flexographic printing and press operations experience required.
• Thorough knowledge of flexographic printing processes, press setup, color management, and quality systems.
• Strong communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
• Knowledge of production scheduling, workflow planning, and manufacturing performance metrics.

 
Language Skills:

• Ability to read, understand, and interpret safety rules, operating procedures, quality specifications, technical documents, production schedules, and customer requirements.
• Ability to effectively communicate expectations, production issues, corrective actions, and performance feedback to employees and management.

Physical Requirements:

• Wears required PPE, including safety shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection on the production floor.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to occasionally lift and move materials up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, noise, and production activity.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks with strong attention to detail.
• Vision: close vision, distance and color vision to distinguish color variations, peripheral and depth perception as well as the ability to adjust focus.
