About the Role
Are you looking for steady, year-round work with a team that values your hard work and precision? Mr. Rooter Plumbing is seeking a skilled Pipelayer to join our underground excavation crew. In this role, you will work right alongside our heavy equipment operators and plumbers to lay, align, and grade critical exterior plumbing systems, sewer lines, and water mains.
This isn't just about digging; it’s about quality workmanship and ensuring our residential and commercial customers' plumbing systems are built to last.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
- Set the Grade: Read blueprints, follow instructions, and utilize instruments like lasers, grade rods, and transit levels to ensure trenches are dug to precise depths and correct slopes.
- Install & Assemble Systems: Measure, cut, position, and connect underground pipes (PVC, SDR, cast iron, copper, etc.) using proper couplings, cement, glue, or specialized fittings.
- Collaborate with the Crew: Work closely with the Excavator Operator to safely prepare trench bases, apply pipe spacers, and guide the placement of materials.
- Expose & Repair: Locate existing underground utilities and line structures using indicators; safely assist in exposing, removing, and replacing damaged or broken sewer and water lines.
- Site Restoration: Securely backfill and compact trenches once inspections are complete, leaving the customer's property clean, safe, and professional.
- Safety First: Adhere strictly to OSHA standards, shoring protocols, and company safety policies regarding open trenches and excavation sites.
What We’re Looking For (Requirements)
- Proven Experience: At least 1–2 years of experience as a pipelayer, plumbing laborer, or in underground utility construction.
- Technical Eye: Strong understanding of pipe fitting techniques, grading, slopes, and the ability to read layout schematics or blueprints.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift 50+ lbs consistently, bend, stoop, climb in/out of trenches, and perform demanding manual labor outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Team First Mindset: Great communication skills and a track record of working seamlessly with operators and field supervisors.
- Reliability: A valid driver’s license with a clean, insurable driving record and dependable transportation to report to work or job sites on time.
