Overview

Position Summary

 

The position provides direct clinical services to our undergraduate and graduate student population, including urgent care and crisis intervention, psychological evaluations, time-limited individual and group psychotherapeutic treatment, on call services, campus liaison, mental health education, and community referral services. Also, UHS has an active Inpatient Service that provides 24 hour health coverage. As such, this mental

health position involves the provision of primary after-hours, on-call coverage, assigned at the discretion of the CPS Associate Director.

 

The Psychologist/Social Worker possesses sophisticated diagnostic skills and specialized knowledge in certain content areas, such as substance abuse, eating disorders, severe personality and identity problems, and affect regulation disturbances and demonstrates training and experience in the use of specialized treatments that are professionally recognized as effective for these content areas e.g. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for affect and behavior regulation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for anxiety disorders etc. The particular skill and knowledge set will be informed by a strong understanding of the full range of developmental and mental health challenges affecting late adolescents and young adults.

 

This is a position with an on-going academic work schedule of 10 months, and is eligible for benefits. For full consideration, candidates should provide a cover letter with their application.

Responsibilities

Position Duties and Responsibilities

 

90% Clinical Care · Provides urgent care and crisis intervention; performs psychological evaluations, and time-limited individual and group psychotherapeutic treatment · Serves on an on call-after hours rotation with other CPS psychologists/social workers. · Performs specialized evaluations for students of concern: these include administrative, readmission, exit, and post-hospital evaluations · Uses clinical data to inform diagnostic assessments (DSM-V) and treatment planning · Engages in campus outreach and community education related to mental health issues Participates on select UHS multidisciplinary treatment teams · Serves as a mental health consultant to other University partners and stakeholders, and a community referral resource for students · Provides oversight and coordination of one or more of the systems and processes in the clinic. These include the urgent care system that provides triage, evaluation, and clinical care services for high risk and emergent cases, decanal consultations (which provide appropriate consultations to the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students, ODUS), the directors of Student Life, DSL, and the Graduate School, GS. · Effectively manages the daily clinical operations, and/or development of new clinical services in response to changing needs of the student body.

 

10% Administrative Management · Participates in UHS, Campus Life, and University committees, as assigned by the Associate Director and Director · Involved in other initiatives, projects, and activities, as assigned by the Associate Director and Director

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

· Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA)-approved doctoral program.

· Completion of APA-approved clinical internship.

· New Jersey State licensure or license eligible.

· A minimum of two years of supervised clinical internship/fellowships.

· Advanced understanding of the full range of developmental and mental health challenges affecting late adolescents and young adults.

· Mastery of multiple models of brief integrative and psychodynamic psychotherapies, and evidence-based mental health care.

· Evidence of experience in working with severely troubled patients and/or on a psychiatric inpatient unit, or the functional equivalent.

· Demonstrated excellence in managing psychological emergencies during office hours and after-hours.

· Evidence of effective collaborations with a diverse group of psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, as well as productive collaborations with multiple stakeholders.

· Evidence of the provision of culturally informed mental health care, and attunement to the manifestations of psychological problems across different cultural backgrounds, identity configurations, and genders

· Knowledge of New Jersey's psychology licensure standards and federal regulations (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA) pertaining to health care organizations (including clinical records, patient privacy and confidentiality, treatment of minors) as well as relevant accreditation standards (e.g., Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care).

· Be knowledgeable in principles and methodologies (e.g., Plan-Do-Study-Act, Root Cause Analysis, measurement, data collection, and analysis) needed to support and lead Quality Improvement projects and activities and/or willing to attend UHS-based Quality Improvement basic training within first 6-months of hire.

· Respects the cultures and identities of others.

· Demonstrates curiosity and open mindset regarding those of different identities and cultures.

· Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

 

Preferred Qualifications

· Advanced degree in a relevant field at the masters level in public health, sociology, neuroscience, social work, healthcare administration.

· Advanced degree in related fields at the doctoral level in public health, medicine, law, as well as behavioral and neurosciences.

· Board certification in psychology (e.g., American Board of Professional Psychology).

· Experience working in a university mental health service or a comparable healthcare system.

· Evidence of professional contributions (such as presentations at professional and academic conferences, publications, and/or form of scholarship), and experience in writing and success in securing grant-related funding.

· Thrives in an energetic, diverse work environment, and skilled at effective interactions with college-age populations, international students, parents, faculty, and college administrators.

· Familiarity with total work systems (such as the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, and Baldrige National Quality Program); and reviewing and analyzing data.

· Training in health equity and other diversity and inclusion topics.
