GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Assist qualified nurses in providing care to patients within an assigned unit, as part of an individualized holistic patient care plan directed by medical staff, according to hospital policies and procedures.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Organization and Management:
- Understand and carry out nursing care in line with the hospital's Vision and Mission Statements, Philosophy, Goals, and Objectives
- Inform Nurse-In-Charge or Unit Manager of changes affecting care standards
- Receive ward reports and assignments before each shift change
- Attend service meetings to discuss operational issues
Daily Routine:
- Perform regular nursing rounds to assess patient needs and communicate with patients/family members
- Make and tidy patients’ beds, change linen as necessary
- Maintain cleanliness of the ward and surrounding areas
- Collect, clean, and fill hot water flasks for patients
- Dispatch charge tickets, CSSS items, specimens, etc. to relevant services
- Answer phone calls and relay messages
- Respond promptly to patient call bells
Assist Qualified Staff in:
- Basic nursing care for patient comfort, safety, nutritional, and elimination needs
- Admission, transfer, and discharge of patients
- Providing personal hygiene care to non-ambulatory patients and assisting ambulatory patients as needed
- Dressing, setting intravenous lines, catheterization, vulva swabbing, etc.
- Clearing and washing instruments after use
- Recording daily charges for disposable/equipment/consumable items used in the ward
- Maintaining intake and output charts
- Lifting, turning, and positioning patients using correct body mechanics
- Treating pressure sores
- Taking diet orders for new admissions and serving meals and drinks
- Feeding patients orally and preparing drinks as necessary
- Chaperoning consultants during procedures and ward rounds
- Accompanying nurses to send and retrieve patients from OT
- Escorting patients to other services for diagnostic investigations
Additional Duties and Responsibilities in Nurse-Led Services:
- Promote home visits for patients needing continuous care
- Assist staff nurse and unit manager in patient care at home
- Ensure payment collection for home visits and diabetes counselling
- Drive home visit vehicle in the absence of staff, ambulance drivers/attendants
- Ensure CSSD items are sent and collected for department usage.
- Report any loss or malfunction of machines or instruments to the Unit Manager.
JOB REQUIREMENT
Education:
- Minimum: SPM qualification
- Preferred: Certificate in Care Assistant
- Proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia
Knowledge and Experiences:
- Minimum: On-the-job training/in-service training provided
- Preferred: Experience in a hospital setting
Skills & Competencies:
- Proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia
- Interpersonal and communication skills
- Caring, honest, and responsible
- Willingness to work scheduled hours, shifts, weekends, public holidays, and during emergencies
Special Skills Required:
- Basic nursing care for patient comfort, safety, nutritional, and elimination needs
