Description

Performs difficult administrative work developing recreation programs for youth and teens, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Athletic Director. Continuous oversight is exercised over all personnel within the team

  • Works closely with outside agencies and groups in developing athletic leagues and programs for youth and teens; studies the athletic and recreational needs of youth and teens; recommends and promotes new leagues and changes in existing ones; investigates and acts upon requests, suggestions and complaints concerning youth and teen athletic services.
  • Plans, schedules, and directs various leagues and programs for youth and teens in a variety of physical settings; oversees youth and teen athletics; coordinates sponsorships.
  • Supervises subordinate employees and volunteers, including assigning work hours/assignments, evaluating performance, training, taking necessary disciplinary action, employee coaching and making hiring and terminating decisions.
  • Reviews, monitors, and accounts for expenditures and revenues within budgetary constraints and cost recovery model.
  • Prepares athletic information for participants and the general public, newspaper publications, newsletter, bulletin boards, flyers, social media, website, and information required for registration system.
  • Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with departmental staff, other departments, agencies, and the general public.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; thorough knowledge of related industry organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; thorough knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of youth and teen athletics, psychology, sociology, and personal health and hygiene; thorough knowledge of first aid practices and techniques applicable to children; general knowledge of community organizations and resources for children; ability to plan and direct youth and teen program in a variety of settings and to win the support and enthusiasm of the participants; ability to cope with physical and mental problems of youth and teens; ability to instruct youth and teens in athletic leagues and to adapt those activities for people with disabilities; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to keep records and prepare reports; ability to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with associates, supervisors, and the general public.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree with coursework in Recreation and Parks Management or related field. Moderate experience in programming, athletics, league scheduling, and overseeing events working with youth and teens, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting and occasionally requires sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Special Requirements

Valid driver's license.
