Senior Contract Manager

Overview:

 

Our client is a specialist contractors contract management, commercial, and dispute advisory organisation supporting some of Australia's most significant infrastructure, civil engineering, and development projects.

 

As part of continued growth across its Australian operations, the business is seeking to appoint an experienced Senior Contracts Manager to join its Brisbane team. This is a senior appointment offering the opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of major infrastructure and mixed-use development projects, providing strategic contract management, claims, dispute resolution, and commercial advisory support to project delivery teams.

 

The successful candidate will operate as a trusted advisor to senior project stakeholders, helping to protect contractual entitlement, manage risk, and support the successful delivery of complex construction programmes throughout Australia.

 

Job Description:

 

The Senior Contracts Manager will play a key leadership role within the organisation's Australian business, supporting major projects from tender stage through to completion and final account.

 

Working closely with project teams, commercial professionals, planners, legal advisors, and senior stakeholders, the role will focus on contract strategy, risk management, claims preparation, dispute resolution, and contractual governance.

 

This position offers significant autonomy and exposure to major infrastructure projects, requiring an individual capable of operating at both strategic and operational levels.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

• Provide senior contract management support across major infrastructure and development projects
• Advise project teams on contractual rights, obligations, risk, and entitlement
• Lead contract reviews, risk assessments, and tender-stage contractual analysis
• Support the negotiation and administration of complex construction contracts
• Manage contractual correspondence, notices, submissions, and stakeholder communications
• Lead the preparation and development of major claims, including Extension of Time, disruption, variation, and cost claims
• Support dispute avoidance and dispute resolution activities across project portfolios
• Work closely with legal teams in the management of claims and formal dispute proceedings
• Assist project teams in managing contractual compliance and commercial governance requirements
• Support contract close-out and final account processes
• Contribute to the ongoing development of contract management best practice across the business

 

Profile Required:

 

• Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Law, Construction Management, or a related discipline
• Minimum 15 years' experience within contract management, commercial management, quantity surveying, claims, or dispute resolution roles
• Proven experience working on major infrastructure, civil engineering, transportation, or mixed-use development projects
• Strong understanding of Australian construction contracts and industry practices
• Demonstrable experience managing contractual issues, claims, disputes, and commercial negotiations
• Experience supporting projects through the full project lifecycle from tender through to completion
• Strong drafting, contractual analysis, and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to work independently whilst supporting multiple projects and stakeholders
• Experience working for a contractor, consultant, or advisory organisation within the construction sector

 

Highly Desirable Experience:

 

• Strong understanding of programming, forensic delay analysis, and project controls
• Experience supporting major contractor-side claims and dispute resolution processes
• Exposure to both contractor and client-side project environments
• International project or dispute resolution experience
• Professional memberships such as AACE, RICS, CIArb, or equivalent
