Description
The PCBA Repair, Soldering & Test Technician inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, reworks, and tests printed circuit board assemblies and electronic products. Working from schematics, drawings, work instructions, and test procedures, this role diagnoses component- and circuit-level failures, restores assemblies to specification, and documents results. The successful candidate combines precision workmanship, disciplined problem solving, and a strong commitment to quality, safety, and production performance.
Requirements
- Troubleshoot PCBAs to the component and circuit level using schematics, test procedures, and diagnostic equipment.
- Diagnose electrical, component, workmanship, and assembly-related failures.
- Perform precision hand soldering and rework on surface-mount and through-hole components.
- Remove and replace defective components while protecting pads, traces, substrates, and adjacent components.
- Complete approved wire, jumper, connector, pad, and trace repairs or modifications.
- Inspect solder joints and completed rework for compliance with workmanship and quality requirements.
- Perform electrical, functional, and diagnostic testing using digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, bench power supplies, signal generators, electronic loads, and production test equipment.
- Interpret test data, isolate failures, determine corrective action, and verify repaired assemblies meet specifications before release.
- Accurately document failure modes, repairs, replaced components, test results, and nonconformances in applicable systems.
- Maintain ESD controls and follow approved work instructions, drawings, bills of materials, safety requirements, and quality procedures.
- Communicate recurring defects and process concerns to Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering teams.
- Support root-cause investigations, continuous improvement activities, and changing production priorities.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and keep tools and equipment in proper operating condition.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; electronics coursework, technical certification, or an associate degree is preferred.
- Two or more years of experience in electronics manufacturing, PCBA repair, soldering, rework, or electronic test.
- Demonstrated proficiency in hand soldering and component-level PCBA rework.
- Experience with both surface-mount technology and through-hole components.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, assembly drawings, component markings, and work instructions.
- Working knowledge of common electronic components and basic analog and digital circuits.
- Experience using a digital multimeter and other electronic diagnostic or test equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot electronic assemblies using a systematic, data-driven approach.
- Strong manual dexterity and ability to perform detailed work using a microscope or magnification equipment.
- Strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, and commitment to quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current or previous certification to J-STD-001 and/or IPC-7711/7721.
- Experience working to IPC-A-610 workmanship requirements.
- Experience repairing high-density SMT assemblies and reworking fine-pitch integrated circuits.
- Experience with automated test equipment and manufacturing execution systems.
- Experience in aerospace, defense, medical, industrial, automotive, or another high-reliability or regulated manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with failure analysis, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement methods.
