Job Description:

Purpose:

This position is responsible for performing a wide variety of technical and specialized duties to ensure compliance with applicable City codes and ordinances, for permitting plans and licensing requirements.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

  • Review permits/applications and plats within the City of Austin design manuals and standards including generally accepted practices by ensuring applicable information is included.

  • Assist in the development of technical reports by performing research and gathering applicable and supporting data.

  • Inspect projects for compliance within standards and specification of the contract and within the City of Austin design manuals and standards.

  • Assist in the design of engineering projects by performing engineering calculations and drawings to meet standards and specifications and draft for scope and review and approval.

  • Perform CAD drawings of project elements for review.

  • Assist in determining bid items and calculate quantities and prepare estimate for review.

  • Assist with preparing plans and specifications.

  • Assist with processing bids in the review of all bid packages prepared by consultants, attend pre-bid conferences, analyzes bid results, prepare detailed results for evaluation.

  • Perform equipment evaluations calibration to ensure valid results.

  • Operate computerized drafting software within the scope of project assignment.

  • Perform construction inspections by obtaining data in the field and providing results.

Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Knowledge of applicable City ordinances, policies, codes, permitting, licensing, and related state and local regulations.

  • Skill in applying code requirements.

  • Skill in oral and written communications.

  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.

  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.

  • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.

  • Ability in maintain effective communication and working relationships with City Officials, business leaders, financial institutions, developers, citizen groups, and City departments and employees

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus one (1) year of related work experience. Education may substitute for experience up to one (1) year.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Civil Construction Principals and Practices

  • Excellent organizational skill with focus on data collection

  • Knowledge of basic computer-based business programs (i.e. Word, Excel, Power BI, etc.)

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday – 7:45 am - 4:45 pm

Pay Range: $26.03 - $31.04 per hour

This work can be done while at a designated work site or while working at an alternate work location. Critical employees who are able to work at an alternative work location are required to do so. Schedules may be modified, and employees may be reassigned to another area during extraordinary situations or emergency conditions to provide essential services.
