Job Summary:

The Heavy Equipment Crew Lead supports the Heavy Equipment Crew Foreman by helping supervise crew personnel and ensuring the safe, efficient, and high‑quality completion of maintenance and construction tasks throughout the park.This role assists in planning and executing scheduled work, including concrete and asphalt repair, parking area maintenance, snow removal, hazard tree operations, and domestic utility repairs such as water, sewer, and electrical systems. Requires Class A CDL license.

The Heavy Equipment Operator (Seasonal) is responsible for safely and skillfully operating a wide range of heavy and light equipment to support maintenance, construction, and utility repair efforts park‑wide. This role performs tasks involving loaders, skid steers, backhoes, dump trucks, snow blowers, chainsaws, and various hand tools to complete projects such as utility repairs, bumper log installation and staining, concrete and asphalt patching, and seasonal snow‑related preparations. Requires Class A CDL license.

 

The Heavy Equipment Crew Laborer supports the Heavy Equipment Crew Foreman and Leads in maintaining and repairing park-wide infrastructure across Yellowstone National Park. This role performs physically demanding outdoor labor, including assisting with domestic utility repairs (water, sewer, electrical), concrete and asphalt patching, bumper log placement, snow pole installation, and extensive snow removal operations. The position requires consistent adherence to safety regulations, environmental sustainability practices, and company policies. The Laborer plays a key supporting role in ensuring safe, functional, and well-maintained facilities throughout the park.

 

 

The Details:Position Type: SeasonalSeason Dates: December 2026 -  March 2027Pay: $20.50/hour - 26.75/hourSchedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Responsibilities

Heavy Equipment Crew Lead - $26.75/hour

  • Assists with supervising the Heavy Equipment Crew personnel.
  • Implements the planned and scheduled workload for repair and maintenance of concrete walkways, parking areas, snow removal, snow polling, hazard tree removal, and domestic utility repairs, i.e. water, sewer, electrical, as well as other tasks.
  • Assists with implementing the proper care, maintenance and security of all assigned equipment and tools.
  • Perform pre-trip inspections to ensure the safe transportation of materials and equipment.
  • Ensure quality and professional work is completed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure sure the crew is complying with all current related codes and regulations.

Heavy Equipment Operator - $22.75/hour

  • Responsible for proficiently operating loaders, skid steer loaders, backhoe loaders, dump trucks, snow blowers, and other equipment common to the trade, including shovels, rakes, tampers, etc.
  • Responsible for proficiently operating chainsaws, hand saws, wedges, block & tackle, and other tree falling equipment common to trade.
  • Responsible for placing concrete and asphalt patching park-wide.
  • Responsible for replacement and staining of bumper logs park-wide.
  • Responsible for all domestic utility (water, sewer, electrical) repairs park-wide.
  • Responsible for correct placement of snow poles for future snow removal.
  • Responsible for working safely and complying with all current related codes and regulations.

Heavy Equipment Laborer - $20.50/hour

  • Assists Crew with park-wide domestic utility repairs (water, sewer, electrical) as needed, with shoveling, raking, tamping, etc.
  • Assists Crew with park-wide placing concrete and asphalt patching.
  • Assists Crew with park-wide bumper log placement and staining as needed.
  • Assists Crew with park-wide snow pole placement for future snow removal.
  • Assists Crew with park-wide snow removal, including heavy shoveling and snow blower usage.
  • Responsible for working safely and complying with all current related codes and regulations.

Qualifications

Heavy Equipment Crew Lead:

  • Proficient in supervising personnel in accordance with all Xanterra policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in the knowledge about the operation and safety with heavy equipment, tractor-trailers, bobcats, snow blowers and other tools and equipment common to trade.
  • General knowledge of domestic utility repair work, i.e. water, sewer, electrical.
  • General knowledge of placing concrete and asphalt patching.
  • General knowledge of staining, i.e. bumper log finishing.
  • Must be at least 21 years old and possess a current, valid, Class A CDL license with a good driving record. This position will also be subject to required DOT drug and alcohol testing.
  • Must be able to read, understand, interpret and comply with all Xanterra’s company policies and procedures.

 

Heavy Equipment Operator:

  • General knowledge of domestic utility repair work, i.e. water, sewer, electrical.
  • Must be able to read, understand, interpret and comply with all Xanterra’s company policies and procedures.
  • You must possess a valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements include:

  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at elevations over 6,000 ft.
  • Walk up to 0.5 miles over uneven terrain; climb stairs and ladders.
  • Lift and carry up to 70 lbs.
  • Perform heavy labor outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
