Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Water Resources / Stormwater Engineer in our Seattle, Washington office. This position is ideal for an engineering professional with experience advancing stormwater, water resources, and environmental infrastructure projects from planning and design through permitting, construction documents, cost estimating, stakeholder coordination, and construction support. You will collaborate with civil engineers, geologists, and scientists to develop practical, technically sound solutions for public- and private-sector clients, using H&H modeling, GIS, and data-driven tools to inform resilient infrastructure decisions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform and support hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analyses/modeling for watersheds and urban drainage systems, including input data preparation, model setup, documentation, and interpretation of results.
  • Support planning and design of stormwater and water resources projects, including drainage improvements, green infrastructure / low impact development (LID), water quality treatment BMPs, erosion and sediment control, habitat restoration, and related environmental infrastructure.
  • Apply data-driven methods, such as Python-based workflows, GIS analysis, automation, artificial intelligence, and machine learning concepts, where appropriate, to support environmental data analysis, H/H model preparation, infrastructure planning, and decision support tool development.
  • Develop engineering calculations, design plans, specifications, construction documents, cost estimates, technical memoranda, and permit-support materials in coordination with CAD/GIS staff and multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Serve as task lead or deputy project manager for selected assignments, supporting scope development, schedules, budgets, work planning, delegation, QA/QC coordination, and delivery of high-quality technical work products.
  • Prepare and present project updates, technical findings, alternatives analyses, and actionable recommendations to clients, agencies, project teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Support proposals and business development efforts by contributing to scopes of work, technical approaches, schedules, cost estimates, and project descriptions.
  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or environmental engineering (or closely related discipline) with coursework/emphasis in water resources, stormwater, hydrology/hydraulics. (required)
  • Master's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, water resources, data science/analytics, or a closely related discipline. (preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license (active). Washington P.E. preferred; if currently licensed in another state, ability to obtain Washington licensure by comity/reciprocity within 6 months of hire. (required)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 5 years (7+ years preferred) of related civil, stormwater, water resources, and/or environmental infrastructure project experience. (required)
  • Proficient with H&H modeling/design tools such as EPA-SWMM, InfoWorks ICM, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, or similar. (required)
  • Proficient using CAD and GIS platforms such as AutoCAD/Civil 3D and ArcGIS. (required)
  • Experience preparing design plans, specifications, construction documents, cost estimates, technical reports, permit-support materials, and construction-phase documentation. (required)
  • Strong technical writing, engineering judgment, task coordination, stakeholder communication, and ability to translate technical findings for technical and non-technical audiences. (required)
  • Working knowledge of Python, R, SQL, JavaScript, machine learning frameworks, or related data tools to automate workflows, analyze engineering datasets, or support predictive analytics. (preferred)
  • Experience coordinating with public agencies, contractors, subconsultants, community stakeholders, and interdisciplinary teams during design, permitting, procurement, and construction. (preferred)
  • Experience serving as a task lead, design lead, or deputy project manager, including coordination of deliverables, budgets, schedules, QA/QC reviews, and junior staff guidance. (preferred)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and travel to project sites or client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required) 

This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Salary: $97,255/year / Maximum Salary: $145,940/year (Seattle, WA)
