Context

It is rare to find an infrastructure project immune to budget and political cycles, but this one has a career horizon stretching all the way to 2086. We are looking for an Electrical (HV and LV) Lead Engineer to join the Newcastle–Sydney HSR corridor—a 100% renewable, greenfield network that is setting a new global standard for engineering excellence.

Missions/Main Duties

In this role, you will be the technical lead for the digital and physical power systems that drive the network. From sizing autotransformer feeding points to ensuring fail-safe power for critical life safety plant, you will own the electrical integrity required to support a 320 km/h HSR system.

Profile/Skills

  • Lead the design of the full electrical infrastructure for the package, including 25 kV / 2x25 kV AT traction power supply and distribution.

  • Manage HV switching and protection, LV power distribution for tunnel and station plant, and earthing and bonding systems.

  • Develop the traction power supply strategy for the corridor, including substation locations and load flow modelling to confirm voltage profiles and energy consumption.

  • Model regenerative braking capacity under worst-case timetable scenarios.

  • Manage the design of tunnel electrical infrastructure, including UPS systems, emergency power, and lighting.

  • Co-ordinate with the Tunnels Lead and Tunnel Ventilation Lead to ensure all plant is correctly allocated and powered.

  • Lead the integrated earthing strategy for traction return current, HV plant protection, and stray current control to protect third-party infrastructure.

  • Provide technical input into system specifications and equipment procurement during the ECI phase.

  • Advise on interface compatibility with signalling, OLE, and communications systems.

  • Co-ordinate with the Rail Systems Lead and Fire & Life Safety Lead to ensure electrical designs support emergency scenarios, including safe traction power isolation.

If you are ready to put the "greenest thing possible" on your CV and lead a technical legacy that moves the needle for decades to come, we want to hear from you.
