Position Status: Temporary
Hours per week: 1-4 (variable)
Reports to: Head of Primary School
Session Dates: Trimester-long programming begins in August, November, and March.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
AIS is looking for in-person instructors to join our Afterschool Academic Skills program at the Buckhead Campus location. Instructional languages include: Chinese, English, French, German, and Spanish. The teacher will lead a class that is composed of different levels in grade level clusters (5K/Grade 1, Grades 2/3, and Grades  4/5) in math or literacy skills. The class group is small (3 to 8 students). Sessions can be designated for support (students not yet meeting grade level expectations) or for extension (students meeting or exceeding grade level expectations). The goal of the program is to advance students' academic skills related to essential outcomes to ensure success within the classroom. 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspire a love of learning while promoting critical thinking and curiosity through engaging, hands-on activities.
  • Provide opportunities to develop and practice math and literacy skills in any of the following areas, based on need and program focus:
    • If Literacy: Use and develop student reading skills (phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension) and writing skills (ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions). 
    • If Math: Teach general math skills and apply them to real-world situations. Regularly support students to build conceptual understanding of math concepts by using concrete and visual representations. Students may work to develop skills in any strand (Number, Measurement, Shape & Space, Data Handling, Pattern & Function). 
  • Differentiate content depending on the level of students.
  • Create a safe and inclusive learning environment. 
  • Communicate with families about learning activities and student progress. 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  • High level of academic language proficiency in English required. Additional proficiency in Chinese, French, German, or Spanish (please specify which language in your application). 
  • Experience working with elementary school-aged children.
  • Background in teaching/education. 
  • Must be flexible, engaging, open-minded and comfortable leading an active group of students in a multicultural, inquiry-based environment. 
  • The school will provide curriculum guidelines with the expectation is that tutors will contribute to the development of the curriculum/program they are teaching.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

  • Classes are 1-2 afternoons per week with hours from 3:00-4:15 PM. Instructors are expected to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to lesson start time. Teachers may offer more than one course/program on different days. 
  • Paid team meetings as needed.
  • Rates between $80 to $125 depending on the number of students. This is an hourly rate with no other benefits.
  • Skills in Google tools and Seesaw are required, or must have a high level or proficiency in equivalent tools.
