Description
Satechi is seeking a talented Temporary Industrial Designer to support our Product team while a team member is on leave for six months. This is a hands-on role for a creative designer who can quickly integrate into active projects and help maintain momentum from concept development through production.
The ideal candidate is comfortable joining projects already in progress, working independently, and collaborating closely with product managers, engineers, suppliers, and other cross-functional partners. This person should bring strong industrial design fundamentals, sound judgment, and the ability to create thoughtful, manufacturable consumer technology products consistent with Satechi’s design language. What You'll Be Doing:
- Support active industrial design projects from concept development through design refinement.
- Quickly become familiar with existing project briefs, schedules, design decisions, and open action items.
- Create sketches, renderings, CAD models, presentation materials, and prototypes that clearly communicate design intent.
- Refine product form, ergonomics, usability, materials, colors, finishes, and details, informed by market trends, user preferences, emerging technologies, and materials.
- Prepare and maintain accurate ID CAD, CMF plan, rating labels, and other ID documentation needed by development and manufacturing partners.
- Review prototypes and samples, support usability and design validation, and work with internal teams and suppliers to translate feedback and test findings into practical design improvements.
- Collaborate with product management, development, packaging, marketing, and operations teams to balance customer needs, brand standards, technical requirements, cost, and schedule.
- Participate in weekly design reviews and clearly communicate recommendations, risks, and decisions.
- Help keep projects organized and moving by tracking design deliverables, decisions, and follow-up items.
- Ensure assigned products remain consistent with Satechi’s visual identity and quality standards.
- Provide clear project documentation and an organized handoff at the conclusion of the assignment.
Who you are:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or a related field.
- Approximately 2-4 years of professional industrial design experience, preferably involving consumer electronics, technology accessories, or similarly detailed products.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating product development from early concepts through manufactured products.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software.
- Proficiency in KeyShot and Adobe Creative Suite; experience with additional sketching or visualization tools is a plus.
- Experience creating physical prototypes and working with 3D printing technologies.
- Working knowledge of common manufacturing processes and materials, including plastics, metals, CNC machining, injection molding, extrusion, and surface finishes.
- Ability to interpret engineering constraints and create solutions that balance aesthetics, functionality, and manufacturability.
- Strong visual, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Comfort working independently, prioritizing multiple assignments, and meeting deadlines in a fast-moving environment.
- Collaborative, adaptable, detail-oriented, and able to provide and receive constructive feedback.
- Active projects continue progressing during the temporary assignment with minimal disruption.
- Design deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Design intent, decisions, and open issues are communicated clearly across teams.
- Prototype and production feedback is addressed promptly and thoroughly.
- Project files and documentation remain organized and ready for a smooth transition at the end of the assignment.
- Experience designing consumer technology products or accessories.
- Experience collaborating directly with overseas manufacturers and suppliers.
- Familiarity with design for manufacturing, tolerance considerations, CMF development, and production sample review.
- Experience entering an established design system and supporting projects already underway.
