Working as part of a cross functional team, you deliver the RDQ activities required to complete new product development, portfolio maintenance and/or productivity projects with an emphasis on meeting the desired consumer experience.
How you will contribute
With the support and guidance of a manager, you will organize and execute projects in line with RDQ, marketing and manufacturing requirements, effectively communicating status and risks. You will plan and conduct pilot plant and factory trials in accordance with good manufacturing practice and HACCP requirements and development activities (e.g. product shelf-life testing, designing for quality, consumer test preparation etc.). You will also write technical reports that will require the analysis and interpretation of results and that lead to conclusions and recommendations and create and maintain accurate consumer-led specifications.

Job Summary:
- The R&D Engineer II will execute and manage of complex Kitchen and Aurora productivity projects for Brazil, driving specification optimization/ harmonization, reformulation, supplier and raw material qualification, and implementation of technical solutions that deliver business value while ensuring product quality and consumer satisfaction.
- Based at the Curitiba Tech Center, the position will be part of the Latin America Central Productivity organization and will work in close partnership with the Brazil Business Unit R&D team. The role will operate with a high degree of autonomy, provide technical recommendations, manage projects of greater complexity and business impact, and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure timely and successful implementation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead complex Kitchen and Aurora productivity projects for Brazil, driving specification optimization/ harmonization, reformulation, and qualification of new suppliers and materials with a high degree of technical autonomy.
- Develop and implement technical solutions that deliver significant cost savings, reduce specification complexity, and improve business performance while ensuring product quality, food safety, regulatory compliance, and consumer satisfaction.
- Lead technical decision-making throughout the project lifecycle, proactively identifying risks, evaluating alternatives, and recommending solutions to ensure successful project execution.
- Plan, coordinate, and lead laboratory, pilot-scale, and industrial trials, providing technical direction, interpreting results, and defining next steps for implementation.
- Act as the primary technical partner for the Brazil BU R&D team, collaborating with Procurement, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Finance, and external suppliers to drive alignment and accelerate project delivery.
- Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, ensuring achievement of milestones, technical quality, implementation timelines, and productivity targets.
- Prepare, review, and approve technical documentation, including formulas, specifications, trial protocols, technical reports, risk assessments, and project records, ensuring compliance with Mondelēz standards and knowledge management systems.
- Provide technical guidance and coaching to junior engineers and project team members, sharing best practices and supporting capability development across the organization.
- Identify and develop new productivity opportunities for the Kitchen and Aurora pipeline, assessing technical feasibility, business impact, and implementation strategy.
- Represent the Central Productivity organization in cross-functional discussions, influencing technical decisions and contributing to strategic initiatives within the Brazil Business Unit.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Food Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Advanced English is required; Spanish is a plus.
- 2–5 years of experience in R&D, Product Development, Productivity, Process Development, or related technical functions within the food industry.
- Experience managing multiple technical projects simultaneously, balancing priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Knowledge of product development, reformulation, ingredient qualification, specification management, and industrial validation processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across cross-functional teams and external suppliers.
- Ability to work independently, make sound technical recommendations, and manage projects with limited supervision.
- Experience with sensory evaluations, pilot trials, and manufacturing validations is desirable.
