Ameresco is looking for a Project Commissioning Engineer is responsible for testing and verifying the operation of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems around the central New York area (Syracuse/Albany). The commissioning services are performed on new construction or building renovation projects. The Project Commissioning Engineer is responsible for the hands-on functional performance testing and for documenting that the equipment or systems operate in accordance with the design intent and meet the energy efficiency standards. This individual will have specific and detailed knowledge, based on his educational background and professional experience, of mechanical, electrical and building automation systems. This individual will support the Operations team and will report to the Director – Commissioning Services.

Responsibilities:

• Review design drawings and equipment specifications and submittals for clarity and completeness and for equipment maintenance access.
• Create the project-specific commissioning (Cx) plan and develop the start-up and testing checklists for the HVAC equipment and systems.
• Perform onsite equipment inspections and verify that the equipment has been installed in accordance with the design drawings and approved submittals.
• Document all deficiencies and note corrective action required.
• Participate in and support equipment start-up and testing by the manufacturer or the contractor.
• Perform hands-on functional testing of HVAC systems, including boilers, chillers, cooling towers, air handling units, pumps and fans.
• Verify building automation system (BAS) sequences of operation, ensure stable operation.
• Review Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Manuals for completeness.
• Maintain a detailed commissioning log and track open issues until contractors resolve them.
• Compile final commissioning reports for building owners.
• Perform all other duties as needed.
• Assists in the coordination and scheduling of project Cx meetings.
• Maintain testing equipment and ensure certifications are current.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering (BSME)
• 3+ year of field experience (mechanical design/build or Cx experience) or Two-year Technical Degree, with 5+ years field experience (service or BAS technician or Cx experience)

Additional Qualifications:

• Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP)
• Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP)

The anticipated salary range for this role is $88,900–$128,750 per year (presented in good faith). In addition to base pay, employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, and may be eligible for performance incentives, bonuses, commissions, or equity, depending on the role.

Actual pay will depend on factors such as internal equity, skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. This range supports our commitment to pay transparency and compliance with applicable laws. Compensation may vary by work location, including remote arrangements.
