Summary of Job Duties:

The Department of Communication in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor in the area of Film Studies. The successful candidate should have experience teaching introductory film studies courses, in addition to upper level courses in film criticism. Candidates should have experience teaching courses in-person as well as online. The position will start in August 2027. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment.

Duties will include developing classes and teaching effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and providing service to the Department, University, and discipline.

This is an in-person position. Most University classes are offered face-to-face and this role requires regular on-campus presence to support high-quality instruction and student learning. Participation in selected departmental or programmatic activities that advance teaching quality and student success is also expected, consistent with the responsibilities of non-tenure track faculty as defined by the academic department.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Communication, Film or Media Studies, or terminal degree in a related field from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the start of appointment

  • Demonstrated competency in the classroom as evidenced in the CV and evidence of teaching effectiveness

  • Experience and competency teaching introductory and upper-level courses in film studies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching film courses in large lecture sections

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Experience teaching lower and upper-level in-person courses in film studies

  • Experience teaching lower and upper-level courses in online formats

  • Experience with service at the departmental, university, or disciplinary level

The Department hosts the Center for Communication Research (CCR) which facilitates collaborative, interdisciplinary social research within the University of Arkansas, Northwest Arkansas region, and broader intellectual community. The CCR seeks to stimulate and support interdisciplinary collaborations; provide opportunities for undergraduate and graduate participation; engage regional, state, and national funding agencies; and acquire and maintain the equipment necessary to support research endeavors. The CCR manages a research lab space that includes state-of-the-art technology for studying all facets of communication.
