Derby Academy, a Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8 co-educational day school located in Hingham, Massachusetts, seeks a Middle School Long Term Substitute Spanish teacher beginning in January, 2027 lasting until mid-June. Rooted in the school’s motto, “Improve Both Mind and Heart,” Derby’s Middle School provides students with a joyful and rigorous academic environment. The Spanish teacher will teach Spanish classes, which will range from grades 5-8. The Spanish teacher will also work with department and grade-level colleagues to deliver language instruction and may additionally serve as an advisor, leader of a club, or a coach.

- Have enthusiasm, flexibility, and a desire to collaborate with colleagues both on a grade level, department level and across disciplines;
- Have a desire to develop and use curriculum that focuses on authentic, real-world application of learning;
- Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, innovation, problem-solving, and the use of technology;
- Create a supportive and caring classroom environment in which students can learn and interact positively with one another; through student-centered instruction, collaboration and authentic assessment;

Our salary scale is based on years of experience and degree.
Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Spanish or education with a focus on Spanish, excellent written and verbal communication skills, commitment to fostering an inclusive environment, and demonstrated experience working with middle school students. At least a year of previous teaching experience is preferred, though Massachusetts teacher certification is not required.
