Job Summary
Corewell Health Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in conjunction with the Michigan State Plastic Surgery residency training program offers a 1 year research internship (July, 2027-2028) designed to provide excellent exposure to clinical, systems based research in pediatric plastic surgery. Optional projects can cater to interests in adult reconstruction, hand and breast surgery.
Our research intern assists with manuscript writing and submissions, study protocols, preparing abstracts / presentations and other related project documents.
This position is responsible for the submission and management of Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications and annual renewals, preparation of study files as well as data acquisition and study proposals/ designs.
The research intern will also supervise a recurring group of medical students with projects and interests in plastic surgery. This is a yearlong position is housed in the Office of Research Support (OSP)
The research intern will be able to participate in all the didactic and clinical educational programs of the residency program throughout the year.
The research position at Corewell Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital is ideal for a third year medical student demonstrating an interest in plastic surgery who seeks a gap year before their fourth year in medical school and applying to integrated residency programs.
Responsibilities
Assists faculty with the development and implementation of research projects.
Assists with writing grant proposals and manuscript development.
Assists with abstracts and prepares presentations for scientific conferences.
Assists with regulatory requirements and collaborates with the ORS to ensure compliance with IRB quality assurance processes.
Maintains records of new protocols, amendments, and IRB activities/ updating regulatory binder as needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree. Preferably enrolled in an MD program at an accredited university.
- Preferred High School Diploma or equivalent Currently enrolled in high school or have graduated from high school, or are enrolled in a university pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in the area of accountability. May also be a recent graduate from an Associate's or Bachelor's degree program.
