What you will do
The Associate Machine Shop Manager (Onsite) plans, develops, and oversees machining, inspection, metrology, staffing, and production support activities to ensure components are processed accurately, efficiently, on schedule, and in compliance with company standards, quality requirements, and business objectives. This role provides leadership for R&D and production machine shop personnel, supports the development of a high-performance technical team, and helps ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective manufacturing operations.
Essential duties & responsibilities:
Lead and oversee daily machine shop and metrology operations to ensure delivery of business objectives related to safety, quality, service, and cost.
Lead, coach, train, and evaluate machinists, inspectors, metrology personnel, and other skilled labor staff based on technical capability, workmanship, productivity, inspection accuracy, safety practices, and adherence to standards.
Provide work direction, constructive feedback, coaching, and training to ensure employees understand their roles, responsibilities, business goals, and performance expectations.
Prioritize production and R&D schedules based on equipment capacity, material availability, product requirements, manpower, inspection needs, and shop workload.
Support patient safety, product quality, regulatory compliance, and validated manufacturing methods by ensuring components are produced to the most current drawings, specifications, procedures, and quality requirements.
Drive operational excellence through process monitoring, problem solving, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Develop an open, positive, team-oriented work environment that promotes communication, accountability, employee engagement, and continuous improvement.
Develop and maintain staffing, training, and resource plans to support current and future business needs.
Manage departmental budgets and support capital equipment planning, cost management, and operational investments.
Participate in internal and external quality system audits and ensure personnel understand applicable EHS, quality, and compliance responsibilities.
What you need
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related technical field
6 years of experience in machining, manufacturing, metrology, engineering support, or a related technical field.
Experience in hands-on machining, manufacturing, metrology, or technical experience related in an R&D, prototype, or production environment.
Working knowledge of CNC machining, metrology principles, inspection processes, engineering drawings, and ASME Y14.5 GD&T interpretation.
Working knowledge of conventional inspection tooling, including surface plates, height gauges, gauge blocks, sine bars, and related precision measurement tools.
Ability to interpret incomplete or developing drawings, identify technical gaps, and apply GD&T principles to support manufacturing and inspection decisions.
Familiarity with CAD/CAM and engineering design software such as Mastercam, SolidWorks, or Creo.
Preferred Qualifications
CNC programming certification or advanced CNC programming experience.
Experience with multi-axis machining, Wire EDM, advanced metrology equipment, and precision inspection systems.
Experience in a regulated manufacturing or medical device environment.
Experience supporting manufacturability improvements, fixture design, and process optimization.
Previous experience leading project teams, technical personnel, or manufacturing employees in a formal or informal leadership capacity.
Business management experience including budgeting, resource planning, cost control, staffing decisions, capital equipment planning, and continuous improvement.
