The Role and Why It's Important
The Nutrition Labeling Intern supports the Nutrition Labeling team in producing the nutrition, ingredient, and allergen information that appears on Hy-Vee products, information customers rely on to make decisions about what they eat. Day to day, this role builds and maintains label data in Genesis R&D, gathers ingredient specifications from suppliers, and reviews recipe spec sheets against USDA and FDA requirements. What You'll Do
- Assist Nutrition Labeling team with the creation of nutrition labels, ingredient statements, and allergen statements to ensure compliance with USDA and FDA food labeling regulations.
- Maintain the nutrition and ingredient database in Genesis R&D and other labeling software, including cleanup of outdated data and removal of deactivated PLUs.
- Gather ingredient specification sheets from suppliers to develop accurate, compliant ingredient and nutrition panels for all retail PLUs.
- Organize and review recipe spec sheets submitted by retail supervisors across all departments.
- Assist with label formatting for in-house printed food labels at Hy-Vee manufacturing facilities.
- Partner with retail labeling staff and with the R&D, Marketing, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Food Safety departments to confirm product and recipe analysis meets national, state, and local regulations and the needs of each business unit.
- Organize Hy-Vee SharePoint content so labeling information is accessible to stores.
- Maintain confidentiality with all product, supplier, and company information.

- Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe, with experience in nutrition database software such as Genesis R&D (preferred)
- Working knowledge of FDA and USDA food labeling regulations (preferred)
- Organizational and administrative skills to manage multiple tasks against recurring deadlines
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion

Education and Experience
- Currently working toward a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition/Dietetics, Food Science/Food Technology, or a related field (preferred)
- Coursework or working knowledge of FDA and USDA labeling regulations (preferred)
- Proficient in computer applications, including MS Office, Adobe, and nutritional database software programs
Physical Requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
- Ability to operate standard office technology, including computers and telephones
- Ability to review and analyze documents and data on screen
- Ability to occasionally transport materials weighing up to 10 pounds (such as files or office supplies)
Working Environment
This position works in a general office setting with possible flexible work arrangements outside of the office. You'll use standard office equipment including PC (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook), telephone, calculator, and other typical office technology.
