Field Tooling Engineer

Supports Solar’s Tool America organization by providing technical support and leadership for assuring the safety, reliability, availability, and cost effectiveness of field tooling, specialty equipment, and support systems used in support of Field Services, Field Repair and our customers. Work closely with Field Repair, Field Operations, Tool Design and other Tool America personnel to provide technical support for tooling design, inspection, certification, maintenance, repair, and deployment using established engineering standards and procedures. Extensive interaction with suppliers, and field personnel worldwide to ensure tooling solutions meet operational, safety, and customer requirements. Responsible for providing engineering guidance, process documentation, and responsive technical support critical to Tool America’s focus on safety, quality, operational excellence, and the timely execution of field service and field repair activities.

 

Activities include: 

• Provide disposition for out-of-spec tooling

• Technical liaison for detailed repairs and work performed by suppliers
• Establish tooling inspection standards and training for inspection personnel

• Support field personnel with the identification of the correct tooling to support specific packages and work scopes
• Manage tooling interchangeability for field tool revisions and alternates

• Utilize Lean 6 Sigma principles to generate improvements to meet quality and production requirements

 

Minimum Requirements:  

• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related degree at time of employment

• 2.8 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale

• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, resolve complex problems, and make sound technical decisions

• 0-3 years of relevant experience

 

Preferred Requirements: 

• Understanding of basic turbomachinery

• Internships in manufacturing environment or in an engineering role

• Proficiency in Excel, macros programming languages and functions

• Demonstrated communication skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to interpret and work from blueprints and mechanical/engineering drawings  

• Sense of urgency and organizational skills to work with multiple projects and competing priorities

• Lean 6 Sigma experience - Yellow Belt or Green Belt participation on a 6 Sigma project desirable

• Demonstrated ability to take initiative to improve quality through identification of root cause and Implementation of corrective action

• Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, with proficiency in communicating technical information

• Demonstrated ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner

 

 

Summary Pay Range:

$72,360.00 - $108,540.00
