Role overview:  

In this role, you'll be based in the Integrated Controls Systems (ICS) capability group. 

This group is part of Rolls-Royce Engineering, Technology and Safety, the central home for engineering skills in the Rolls-Royce group.

 

The ICS group is made of a diverse group of engineering covering: Software (traditional and model-base), Systems, Electronics, Electrical Power, Mechanical, and System Security.  We work closely together in design, integration, testing, service support, and supply chain management to ensure our customers’ needs are met.

What you’ll be doing:  

Controls Operations Engineer works on a wide variety of projects to support Rolls-Royce’s diverse customer base.  Responsible areas include, but not limited to maintaining IT infrastructure, interacting with a global IT and program development teams, investigating, developing, and implementing new features that improve efficiency, productivity, or security of our mission critical data.

 

As a Controls Operations Engineer, you'll be supporting the existing development environment through its lifecycle, including diagnosing issues, maintaining various systems, and designing for future growth demands. Opportunities in this role include but are not limited to developing IT and security infrastructure requirements with internal customers, solving platform integration issues, and working with the various teams in creating effective solutions.

 

Controls Operations Engineer is involved in:

• Assisting in the administration, configuration, and support virtual machines, and physical machines
• Helping design, manage, and support engineering development, project management, and team collaboration software
• Documenting infrastructure configurations, procedures, and changes
• Troubleshooting platform issues in collaboration with infrastructure and solution support architects
• Conducting security vulnerability remediation using Linux/Windows diagnostic tools to trace active processes, assess system dependencies, and execute safe mitigation plans without disrupting live production services
• Providing support in the design and deployment of Department of Defense’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC), a mandatory verification framework to protect sensitive defense information

Who we’re looking for:  

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace, and/or related degree
  • Educated at degree level in STEM subjects, including Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering
• Foundational understanding of networking concepts, server architecture, infrastructure / platform engineering, and virtualization / cloud concepts (especially VMware)
• Experience in Linux and Windows Server environments
• Experience querying and managing databases
• Excellent attention to detail, self-motivation, problem solving skills, and ability for written and oral communication to a variety of audiences (e.g. team members, technical experts, and management)

***Travel: Candidates must be able to commute to various local and regional (West Lafayette) worksites as needed.

Preferred:

• Knowledge of IT best practices (ITIL) for system monitoring, configuration management, enterprise tools, or improving and aligning services with business objectives
• Knowledge or interest in Linux ecosystems and configuration management (e.g., Ansible) to drive automated, centralized deployments across the infrastructure.
• An infrastructure-as-software mindset focused on observability, utilizing log tracking to understand system behavior and identifying critical areas for monitoring and redundancy

Minimum GPA: 3.0    

Work authorization eligibility: To be considered, you must also be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a high-level security clearance.
