About this opportunity:

Data access is essential for software development, analytics, and AI, but access processes are often fragmented across identity services, data platforms, and organizational workflows. This can make it difficult to request, approve, provision, review, and revoke access consistently and securely.

Ericsson Radio Software (RU SW) is developing a unified self-service access model for both human users and AI agents. The model will provide a common access lifecycle while preserving the native authorization mechanisms of different platforms. Access decisions will consider identity, ownership, classification, purpose, privileges, duration, and applicable policies.

The thesis will focus on designing, implementing, and evaluating a proof of concept using the RU SW Data Portal, based on OpenMetadata, with selected integrations for AWS, Snowflake, and OpenSearch.

What you will do:

  • Review practices in self-service data access, identity and access management, authorization, and data governance.
  • Define a unified access model covering requests, policy evaluation, approval, provisioning, auditing, review, and revocation.
  • Design a portal-agnostic architecture with a common access contract and platform-specific adapters.
  • Implement a proof of concept using the RU SW Data Portal as the first client.
  • Demonstrate selected end-to-end access flows for AWS, Snowflake, and OpenSearch.
  • Evaluate how the same governed model supports both human users and AI agents while preserving least privilege, traceability, and revocation.
  • Assess the solution’s security, correctness, usability, maintainability, and portability, and provide recommendations for future platforms.

The skills you bring:

  • You are pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • You have programming experience in Python and an understanding of REST APIs and software integration.
  • You are interested in identity and access management, authorization, security engineering, cloud platforms, and data governance.
  • Familiarity with AWS, Snowflake, OpenSearch, databases, metadata management, or policy-based access control is an advantage.
  • You are analytical, structured, and able to work independently on a system-design and implementation problem.
