Description
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the month-end close process, including accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts.
- Produce variance analysis and provide meaningful commentary on business performance.
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports for senior management.
- Perform detailed analysis of cost of goods sold (COGS), inventory and operating expenses.
- Monitor financial performance and identify opportunities for cost control and efficiency improvements.
- Support operational teams with financial insight to aid decision-making.
- Monitor daily cash flow requirements.
- Support the Financial Controller with weekly, monthly and rolling forecasts.
- Assist with annual budgeting processes and ongoing financial planning activities.
- Support year-end statutory accounts preparation and external audit requirements.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, VAT and payroll regulations.
- Maintain strong financial controls and adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Identify and implement improvements to finance processes and reporting.
- Support the development and enhancement of financial systems and controls.
- Work collaboratively across departments to improve efficiency and data accuracy.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Fully qualified ACCA, CIMA or ACA accountant, or part-qualified with significant relevant experience.
- Previous experience in a management accounting, finance analyst or similar role.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting and management accounting principles.
- Knowledge of VAT, payroll and statutory compliance requirements.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience using ERP or integrated finance systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Experience within waste management, industrial, manufacturing, environmental services or related sectors.
- Experience working within a multi-site business environment.
- Knowledge of business intelligence and reporting tools.
