Since 2007, IRC has worked with refugees and other vulnerable populations in Jordan focusing on urban and camp interventions addressing health, protection, economic development, and early childhood development for Syrian refugees and host communities. IRC through its health program has been providing essential Primary and Reproductive Health (RH) services to Syrian refugees and vulnerable host communities in Jordan.


Job Overview/Summary:


The Nurse will support the delivery of medical services to Syrian refugees and vulnerable Jordanians. Working under the direct supervision of the Senior Health Officer, the Nurse will provide high-quality professional medical care in accordance with national and international laws and standards.

Major Responsibilities:

Clinical Care

  • Assess patients' conditions, initiate appropriate medical attention, and perform the full scope of duties expected of a registered nurse.
  • Conduct triage and record vital signs to determine priority of care.
  • Assist physicians as required during consultations, treatments, and examinations.
  • Administer medications, injections, and vaccinations in accordance with prescribed treatment plans and IRC/MOH protocols.
  • Provide wound care, dressing changes, and other basic clinical procedures as needed.
  • Respond promptly to medical emergencies within the clinic and provide appropriate first-line care.
  • Refer patients to appropriate levels of care when needed, in coordination with the Senior Health Officer.

Documentation and Records Management

  • Maintain and update patient registration books and appointment records.
  • Maintain and review patient records, charts, and other documentation relevant to the Health Information System (HIS).
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of clinical documentation in line with reporting requirements.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times, in accordance with IRC data protection standards.

Infection Prevention and Clinic Support

  • Adhere to infection prevention and control protocols, including proper sterilization and disposal of medical waste.
  • Monitor and report on stock levels of medical supplies, medications, and equipment relevant to nursing duties, flagging shortages to the Senior Health Officer.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the nursing station and clinical work areas.

Health Education and Community Engagement

  • Prepare and facilitate regular health education sessions for patients at the clinic, in coordination with clinic staff.
  • Provide patients and caregivers with guidance on treatment adherence, preventive care, and healthy practices.

General Duties

  • Perform other related duties within the clinic as may be assigned by the Senior Health Officer

Key Working Relationships:

Position Reports to: Senior Health Officer

Position directly supervises: None

Indirect Reporting: Senior Health Manager

 

Job Requirements:


Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing

Work Experience: 3 to 5 years’ work experience as a nurse

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong clinical skills in patient assessment, triage, and basic nursing procedures (vital signs, wound care, injections, vaccinations).
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices, including sterilization and safe disposal of medical waste.
  • Ability to respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies within the clinic.
  • Knowledge of MoH/WHO clinical protocols and standard nursing procedures.
  • Ability to assist physicians during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Health Information Systems (HIS) and experience with patient registration, documentation, and record-keeping.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining patient records and charts.
  • Ability to monitor and report on medical supply and equipment needs relevant to nursing duties.
  • Experience or ability to prepare and facilitate health education sessions for patients and caregivers.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health care team.
  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Fluency in Arabic and working knowledge of English is required.

Language Skills: Fluent in Arabic. Basic knowledge of English.

Certificates or Licenses: Be certified to practice nursing in Jordan as a nurse and have any other the necessary certification from the government and maintain license throughout the duration of the hire.

The position is based in Zaatari camp.
