Sr. Estimator - Skid & Integrated Power Systems

Electrical Power Systems | Equipment Integration | Modular Fabrication

About 5K Power 5K Power is an electrical manufacturing, integration, and fabrication company delivering engineered power solutions across commercial, industrial, mission-critical, data center, energy, and construction markets. Beyond supplying single components, 5K Power integrates electrical equipment, structural steel, cable management, controls, and interconnections into complete skid-mounted and modular power systems to cut field installation time, enhance quality, and speed up project schedules.

Position Summary 5K Power is hiring a Senior Estimator – Skid & Integrated Power Systems with experience in packaged electrical equipment, skid fabrication, modular construction, or systems integration.

  • Role Focus: Unlike traditional electrical construction estimating, this role requires taking multiple electrical components—such as RMUs, transformers, switchboards, switchgear, control panels, and generators—and packaging them into a complete fabricated and integrated skid.

  • Core Responsibilities: Evaluates customer specifications, electrical one-lines, equipment drawings, structural needs, interconnections, and project scope to determine the full cost to design, procure, fabricate, integrate, wire, test, and deliver the final assembly.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Proposal Development

  • Review RFQs, specifications, one-line diagrams, layouts, data sheets, and drawings to establish complete scope, exclusions, and RFIs.

  • Build detailed Bills of Material (BOMs) and complete estimates for skid-mounted/integrated systems.

  • Estimate costs for major equipment, structural steel, fabrication, electrical assembly, wiring, testing, engineering, PM, freight, and lifting provisions.

  • Calculate fabrication and integration labor hours, evaluate vendor quotes, and identify cost-saving design alternatives.

  • Generate final pricing for management review and customer proposals, and manage post-award change orders.

Skid Fabrication & Systems Integration

  • Estimate complex packages combining MV/LV equipment (RMUs, transformers, switchgear, PDUs, generators, UPS) with structural steel, raceways, and weather protection.

  • Apply manufacturing cost factors for structural frames, welding, equipment mounting, clearances, surface coatings, assembly sequencing, and shipping limitations.

  • Account for structural details like lifting points, forklift provisions, and field reassembly requirements.

Electrical Interconnection

  • Determine and cost interconnections between major equipment beyond standard line items.

  • Estimate power/control wiring, interconnecting conduit/cable tray, power cabling, terminations, grounding, bonding, and auxiliary power.

  • Factor in factory testing, labeling, and complete system documentation.

Engineering & Supply Chain Coordination

  • Collaborate with engineering on conceptual skid arrangements, footprint sizing, weight distribution, and design-build solutions.

  • Lead the post-award estimate-to-engineering project turnover.

  • Solicit and compare vendor quotes based on cost, lead time, footprint, and technical compliance.

  • Track component lead times to mitigate schedule risks and develop alternate sourcing strategies.

Typical 5K Power Skid Applications

  • MV & Package Distribution Skids: RMU Skids, RMU + Transformer Skids, and complete RMU + Transformer + Low-Voltage Switchboard Skids for medium- to low-voltage power distribution.

  • Modular & Distribution Systems: PDC / PDMC Skids and factory-integrated Switchgear & Switchboard Skids mounted on structural bases.

  • Generation & Temporary Power: Generator Power Skids (integrated with switchboards and controls) and Temporary Power Skids.

  • Renewable & Custom Solutions: Solar / Renewable Energy Skids (power conversion/distribution) and Custom Design-Build Skids tailored to specific project needs.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Estimating Experience: 3+ years estimating skid-mounted equipment, packaged electrical systems, modular construction, equipment integration, or similar manufacturing.

  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to interpret electrical one-lines, equipment layouts, specifications, and construction drawings, with a solid understanding of power distribution and electrical interconnections between major equipment.

  • Fabrication & Labor: Experience estimating fabricated assemblies, structural steel framing, equipment mounting concepts, detailed BOMs, and shop fabrication/assembly labor hours.

  • Vendor & Commercial Skills: Skilled in obtaining/evaluating vendor quotes, identifying scope gaps, assessing project risks, and applying strong commercial awareness.

  • Core Competencies: Strong organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Industry Background: Work history with an electrical systems integrator, skid-mounted/modular electrical equipment OEM, EPC contractor, or packaged equipment manufacturer.

  • Equipment & Infrastructure: Experience with data center power systems, medium-voltage distribution, RMUs, transformers, switchgear, switchboards, generator integration, and PDC/PDMC systems.

  • Design & Manufacturing Methods: Background in structural steel fabrication, electrical prefabrication, modular construction, and design-build electrical systems.

  • Software Platforms: Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, Bluebeam, industry estimating software, or ERP/MRP systems.

What Success Looks Like The ability to analyze a simple one-line diagram (e.g., RMU → Transformer → Switchboard) and accurately cost the complete physical and functional system—including skid size, structural steel, mounting, interconnections, cable tray, labor, engineering, testing, lifting, freight, and profit margins—ensuring a buildable, transportable, and profitable solution.

Why 5K Power 5K Power is developing a growing portfolio of prefabricated and integrated electrical power solutions to reduce field labor, installation time, and project risk before equipment reaches the jobsite. This position offers the opportunity to play a major role in expanding 5K Power's Skidding & Systems Integration business unit and establishing the foundational estimating standards that drive its growth. (5K Power is a Veteran Operated company).
