Job Description:
The Job/What You’ll Do:
We are seeking a Trading Systems Analyst to support the performance, reliability, and continuous improvement of trading technology capabilities across the investment lifecycle. This role combines trading knowledge, data analysis, and systems thinking to help ensure technology supports effective, scalable, and controlled production trading.
The Trading Systems Analyst develops a detailed understanding of how trading workflows, configurations, business rules, and system integrations work together in production. The role analyzes system behavior, investigates issues, identifies process gaps, and translates Trading and operational needs into clear requirements and practical recommendations.
Working closely with Portfolio Trading, Trading Leadership, Product Management, Engineering, Portfolio Management, Operations, Compliance, Risk, and Technology, this role brings a Trading and operational perspective throughout the solution lifecycle—from requirements and workflow design through testing, production validation, and stabilization. This partnership helps ensure capabilities are implemented in a way that is usable, resilient, and aligned with business operating needs.
The role independently owns defined analyses and workstreams while partnering with Senior Trading Systems Analysts and the Manager, Trading Systems on broader platform initiatives, governance, and operating standards. This position is ideal for an experienced trading or investment operations professional who wants to deepen expertise in trading systems, business analysis, configuration, and production excellence.
We can consider candidates for this position who are able to accommodate a hybrid work schedule and are close to our office location in Charlotte, NC.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor and analyze assigned trading workflows, system outputs, exceptions, and operational metrics to identify issues, trends, and improvement opportunities.
- Investigate production incidents and recurring problems by gathering data, tracing workflows, evaluating configurations, and documenting root cause and business impact.
- Translate Trading and operational needs into clear business requirements, process flows, user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional documentation.
- Analyze and maintain assigned business configurations for trading applications, including business rules, workflows, reference data, permissions, and other platform settings.
- Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and regression scenarios for trading system, configuration, integration, and workflow changes.
- Participate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT), release readiness, production validation, and post-implementation stabilization for system enhancements and fixes.
- Assess the downstream impact of proposed changes on integrations, operating procedures, controls, reporting, and client outcomes.
- Create and maintain reports, dashboards, and data analyses that measure process stability, operational efficiency, control effectiveness, exceptions, and business outcomes.
- Identify and recommend opportunities to improve trading workflows through configuration changes, automation, process redesign, and standardization.
- Maintain accurate workflow documentation, system inventories, runbooks, configuration records, test evidence, and change history.
- Collaborate with Product Management and Engineering throughout the solution lifecycle to ensure delivered capabilities align with trading workflows and production operating requirements.
- Track issues, enhancements, risks, and dependencies through resolution, providing timely updates and escalating material concerns when appropriate.
- Support operational controls and governance practices that promote reliable, compliant, and scalable use of trading technology.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Practical understanding of the trading lifecycle, including order generation, rebalancing, execution, allocation, and post-trade processing.
- Experience working with order management systems (OMS), execution management systems (EMS), rebalancing platforms, portfolio accounting systems, or related investment technology.
- Ability to translate business needs and production issues into functional requirements, workflow documentation, test scenarios, and actionable recommendations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret data, identify patterns, and perform structured root cause analysis.
- Experience supporting system configurations, business rules, reference data, integrations, or other operational components of enterprise applications.
- Experience with User Acceptance Testing (UAT), regression testing, defect documentation, production validation, and release support.
- Proficiency with Excel and experience using SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or comparable reporting and analytics tools.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and follow issues through resolution.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain system behavior and analysis to business and technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently on defined assignments and collaborate effectively across teams without direct management authority.
- Knowledge of investment operations, operational risk, controls, and regulatory considerations within an investment management or wealth management environment.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in investment management, wealth management, portfolio trading, trading operations, or investment technology, with exposure to trading systems and workflows.
