Senior Accountant – Americas

Purpose of the role

This role delivers the accounting for the Americas from India. It is a US-qualified seat, created to build proper US accounting capability within the Group's India finance delivery center.
In its first year the role also carries the closure accounting for the South and North American entities being wound down, Colombia, Mexico and Canada. It is therefore both a forward-looking build and a clean-up of the Americas estate.
The role is India-based and permanent in India. It reports the Americas numbers to the Head of Finance, with a dotted line to the Chief Accountant, India & Far East, who supervises the India delivery team. The reporting of the Americas results sits with Finance and is independent of any regional operating manager.

Core responsibilities
US accounting and reporting

• US GAAP. Own the US books under US GAAP, including the monthly close, the general ledger and all balance-sheet reconciliations for the US entity.
• Reporting. Prepare the US Balance Sheet, Income Statement and Cash Flow, and convert or bridge to IFRS for Group consolidation on the reporting calendar.
• Consolidation input. Deliver the Americas reporting pack to the Chief Accountant, India & Far East and the Head of Finance, with intercompany balances reconciled for Group consolidation.
• One version of the truth. Act as a reliable, independent source for the Americas numbers, cross-checking with the wider finance function and the Commercial Control Centre.

US tax and compliance

• Federal and state tax. Coordinate US federal and state tax filings, sales-and-use tax and franchise tax with the Group's US tax advisors and maintain the compliance calendar for the region.
• Payroll and reporting. Oversee US payroll processing and related filings with the external provider, reviewing before disbursement.
• Audit. Support the Group audit for the Americas, resolving auditor queries with tax advisors and banks.

Payments, AP and AR

• AP and AR ledgers. Maintain the Americas accounts payable and receivable ledgers within Finance, overseeing invoicing, collections follow-up and payment controls.
• Payment creation. Create Americas payments from the approved payment calendar and budget; Treasury arranges the funds and executes, so no one creates, approves and executes the same payment.

Requirements

• Qualification. US-qualified accountant: CPA, or a qualified accountant (CA / ACCA) with demonstrable, hands-on US GAAP and US tax experience. This is a non-negotiable requirement of the role.
• Experience. At least 6 to 8 years in accounting, including direct responsibility for US books under US GAAP, ideally within a multi-entity or multinational group. Experience of entity liquidation or closure accounting is an advantage given the year-one scope.
• Technical depth. Strong command of US GAAP, the US federal and state tax landscape, and the monthly close. Ability to bridge US GAAP to IFRS for Group consolidation. Familiarity with multi-currency accounting.
• Systems. Strong ERP and Excel skills. Odoo experience or an appetite to work through a new ERP implementation, is a distinct advantage.
• Working pattern. Comfortable delivering US accounting remotely from India, including a willingness to overlap with US business hours as needed for close and audit.

• English. Clear and professional in English, with auditors, tax advisors and banks alike.
• Proactive and commercially aware, the kind of person who brings the solution, not just the problem.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

• Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Mobility: Must be able to walk and climb to perform duties, including maneuvering within a refinery or plant environment and accessing elevated platforms via ladders and stairwells.
• Communication: Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, or other communication capabilities, to communicate effectively.
• Focus and Multitasking: Ability to maintain focus and multitask effectively.
• Safety Equipment: Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection, if/where needed in manufacturing environments.
• Personal Mobility and Reflexes: Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodations, to perform office duties and travel to off-site locations when necessary.
