Description
The Director, Bioinformatics will provide strategic leadership for Illumina's multiomics bioinformatics portfolio, spanning single cell, spatial biology, proteomics, epigenomics, and emerging multiomics technologies. Leading a team of bioinformatics scientists and engineers, this leader will define and execute informatics strategies that enable end-to-end customer multiomics workflows. The role will involve partnering closely with Product Management, Assay Development, Software Engineering, Clinical Development, and Commercial organizations to align bioinformatics capabilities with product roadmaps, customer needs, and business objectives.
Responsibilities:
Strategy -- define and drive bioinformatics strategy across Illumina's multiomics portfolio, including single cell, spatial biology, proteomics, epigenomics, and emerging multiomics technologies
Vision -- establish the long-term vision for customer-facing informatics experiences and end-to-end product workflows
Innovation -- drive innovation in analysis methods, AI-enabled workflows, and next-generation multiomics capabilities
Leadership -- lead, develop, and grow a team of bioinformatics scientists and engineers, and lead programs from concept through commercial launch
Partnership -- represent Bioinformatics and partner cross-functionally to develop technology roadmaps and investment priorities

Requirements:
PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, Genomics, or related scientific discipline, with 10+ years of relevant experience preferred
Demonstrated leadership experience managing complex bioinformatics organizations and programs
Track record of delivering customer-facing software, analytical methods, or informatics products, including support of commercial launches
Experience leading cross-functional product development initiatives
Strong understanding of NGS, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, or related multiomics technologies
Experience with cloud-scale informatics platforms, AI/ML technologies, and large-scale biological data analysis
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Experience/Education:
Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 18 years of related experience, with 10+ years of Management experience.

The estimated base salary range for the Director, Multiomics Bioinformatics role based in the United States of America is: $205,100 - $307,700. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. The range reflects long‑term growth in the role; therefore, most candidates are hired between the minimum and middle of the range. Placement depends on experience, skills, location, and internal equity. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
