Description
Investment Forecasting Strategy & Transformation Lead
Full-Time
Boston, MA, Springfield, MA or New York, NY
The Opportunity
As an Investment FP&A Forecasting Strategy Lead, you will own how the investment forecast is produced—leading the end-to-end forecasting lifecycle across planning, production, and continuous improvement within the broader FP&A process.
Investment FP&A sits at the center of the enterprise feedback loop, connecting strategy, forecast, actual performance, and management action for MassMutual’s investment portfolio. In this role, you will ensure the investment forecast is delivered in a controlled, transparent, and scalable manner—so it can be relied on as a core input to planning and decision-making for senior and executive leadership.
You will operate with direct visibility to Finance and Investment Management senior leadership — partnering with the Head of Transformation, IM Operations, and Data Strategy leaders to ensure investment data governance extends all the way through to FP&A and that we are established as a key customer of enterprise data and platform investments.
You will transform the forecasting operating model for Investment FP&A — designing and building workflows that are practical, clearly owned, and easy to maintain. The goal is not just process improvement; it is to build a system that is sustainable, teachable, and does not depend on any single person to run.
You will lead the business side of key transformation initiatives, including the Anaplan reimplementation — defining what the team needs from the platform, shaping how workflows should work in the future state, and overseeing testing to ensure the end result is aligned with business purpose. You will work closely with the Modeling COE and enterprise partners to make sure models, data, and systems are aligned to how FP&A operates and where it is headed.
In partnership with the Investment FP&A team, you will create the conditions for high-quality, decision-ready insight — and help move the function from production-heavy delivery toward a more scalable, insight-driven model.
The Team
You will be part of a growing Investment FP&A team focused on transforming how investment performance and strategy are understood and delivered across the enterprise. The team combines analytical insight generation with strong operational ownership of the forecasting process.
The team plays a central role in the FP&A planning cycle, owning the investment forecast and serving as a key link between strategy, financial outcomes, and management actions.
We work closely with Investment Management, Corporate Finance, Treasury, Actuarial, and enterprise data and systems teams. Our culture emphasizes ownership, clarity, and continuous improvement, with a shared goal of building a scalable, transparent, and reliable forecasting capability that the business can trust.
The Impact
- Own and evolve the investment forecasting operating model, defining how planning, production, and model governance work across the team — ensuring the model is resilient, scalable, and aligned to enterprise planning cycles
- Design workflow infrastructure that embeds quality and speed into how the team operates — establishing clear ownership, structured handoffs, and built-in transparency so the team can deliver consistently without reliance on individual expertise or manual workarounds
- Safeguard production integrity and stakeholder confidence by establishing process discipline and cross-team coordination into the operating rhythm — ensuring the team meets enterprise timelines without compromising analytical quality
- Lead the business side of Investment FP&A's system transformation, including Anaplan — translating business needs into platform requirements, shaping future-state workflows, and overseeing UAT execution to ensure the end result serves the team's analytical and reporting objectives
- Represent Investment FP&A in enterprise platform and data governance decisions — partnering with the Head of Transformation, IM Operations, and Data Strategy to ensure investment data flows are governed end-to-end and that FP&A is recognized as a key customer of enterprise data and system investments
- Build the operational foundation that enables insight and executive-ready analysis — ensuring data, models, and workflows are structured to enable decision-relevant analysis, in partnership with the Analytics Lead
- Build organizational resilience and reduce key-person risk by establishing documented, repeatable processes and developing junior talent — building a team culture of process ownership and accountability so the team can scale and sustain performance independent of any single contributor
- Drive the continuous evolution of the operating model as part of the broader Finance Transformation — identifying structural gaps, designing scalable solutions, and positioning the team to absorb new demands as the function's scope and influence grow
The Minimum Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in FP&A forecasting, actuarial modeling, ALM, Cash Flow Testing (CFT / AAT), or related finance/modeling roles
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field
- Strong understanding of forecasting processes, planning cycles, and production environments, including interactions between models, data, and financial outputs
- Experience working with actuarial or financial models and understanding model development, testing, and governance cycles
- Demonstrated experience leading model or platform conversions, including defining business requirements, shaping future-state design, and owning the business-side decision-making through implementation. Experience as a participant or tester alone is not sufficient; this role requires someone who has owned the "what" and "why," not just the "how."
- Proven ability to understand enterprise priorities and translate them into forecasting strategy — influencing senior-level stakeholders on platform, data, and process decisions, not just executing against a strategy defined by others. This includes experience engaging with senior leadership, technology partners, and cross-functional owners as a thought partner, not solely as a workstream executor
- Track record of thought leadership in forecasting or modeling operations — including identifying structural gaps, challenging existing processes, and designing scalable solutions that change how a function operates. The expectation is to define and build the framework, not improve within one
- Proven ability to design and operate end-to-end workflows with clear ownership, effective handoffs, and embedded governance — with evidence of having built these from the ground up, not solely maintained existing processes
- Navigate and lead through organizational and system change — operating with ambiguity across evolving tools, data maturity, and competing transformation priorities. Independently assess trade-offs, define sequencing, and make judgment calls that balance enterprise timelines with business quality standards
The Ideal Qualifications
- Experience leading or co-leading model/platform conversions or system transformations in a business-side ownership capacity
- Familiarity with insurance investment data, modeling inputs, and linkages to STAT and GAAP reporting
- Strong systems-thinking mindset with the ability to identify structural issues and design practical, scalable solutions
- Comfort operating with ambiguity and leading through change in environments with evolving tools, data maturity, and organizational priorities
