Description
A Financial Analyst in Capital Project Controlling owns the financial governance of the capital project portfolio, drives project feasibility analysis, ensures compliance with Capex policies, and translates complex financial concepts for non-finance stakeholders.
This role blends project finance, FP&A, fixed-asset accounting, and business partnering—ideal for someone with strong analytical skills, SAP S/4HANA expertise, and the confidence to challenge project managers while supporting them.
Key Responsibilities
Capital Project Governance & Portfolio Control
• Lead and support the annual Capex planning cycle, including budget development and long-term forecasting.
• Conduct variance analysis and identify drivers impacting project performance.
• Monitor project actuals vs. approved budgets and ensure cost-control processes are applied consistently.
• Challenge project managers on cost forecasts and provide hands-on training and support to improve forecast accuracy.
• Ensure proper documentation, approvals, and adherence to internal controls.
• Support fixed-asset continuity schedules and GL reconciliations.
• Collaborate with operations, engineering, finance, and asset owners to ensure financial accuracy and alignment with project scope.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across project financial governance.
• Apply strong knowledge of accounting standards to ensure accurate financial reporting of projects.
Financial Analysis & Project Feasibility
• Perform NPV, IRR, payback, and full feasibility analysis for major capital projects.
• Provide financial recommendations to support investment decisions and steer key projects.
• Maintain financial models to assess ROI, scenario impacts, and long-term value creation.
• Present financial insights in clear, actionable terms for project teams and leadership.
Reporting and Performance Management
• Create and maintain Power BI dashboards to track project financial performance.
• Prepare recurring and ad-hoc reports for senior leadership and global stakeholders.
• Standardize reporting tools and improve methodologies for Capex evaluation and governance.
Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
• CPA designation or actively pursuing CFA (preferred).
• 1–2 years of relevant experience in finance, FP&A, project finance, or capital project controlling.
• SAP S/4HANA experience is a plus.
• Strong business acumen with ability to evaluate project feasibility and challenge assumptions.
• Excellent communication skills with ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt in fast-moving environments.
• Experience in the manufacturing industry is an asset.
• Advanced proficiency in MS Excel.
• Power BI experience is a plus.
The compensation for this position is between $81,300 and $101,600 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
