Job Details
The Materials Distribution Tram Operator is responsible for transporting materials, supplies, and equipment throughout the hospital campus using a tram system. This role ensures timely delivery and collection of supply carts, supports warehouse operations, and maintains a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete the daily tram inspection checklist prior to operating the tram.
- Identify, select, and prepare supply carts for delivery to designated hospital locations.
- Safely connect carts to the tram and transport them to assigned elevator banks and delivery areas.
- Disassemble cart trains and deliver carts directly to departments as needed.
- Collect empty carts from hospital locations and return them to the service building for replenishment.
- Assemble and transport returned carts back to designated service areas.
- Stock warehouse inventory by placing labeled materials in assigned storage locations.
- Crush and dispose of cardboard boxes and ensure carts are returned in a timely manner.
- Follow all departmental safety policies, procedures, and work practices.
- Promptly report unsafe conditions, hazards, accidents, or safety concerns to management.
- Collaborate with supervisors to resolve delivery barriers or operational issues.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
Experience
- One (1) year of hospital experience preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to learn and safely operate a hospital tram within a reasonable training period.
- Strong coordination and motor skills.
- Effective verbal communication skills to interact with employees, supervisors, and departmental staff.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and accuracy.
- Commitment to workplace safety and customer service.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to transfer tram batteries using rollers, with battery weights up to 1,200 pounds.
- Ability to push and maneuver wheeled supply carts weighing up to 500 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, push, pull, and lift throughout the workday.
Working Conditions
- Hospital and warehouse environment.
- Exposure to moving equipment and supply transport vehicles.
- Must follow appropriate safety precautions to prevent exposure to electrical shock hazards associated with the tram and corrosive battery acids.
