Department Overview
Senior Counsel, Wealth Legal, will be a member of the Canadian Wealth Distribution Legal Team located in Toronto. The Canadian Wealth Distribution Legal Team provides legal advice and counsel to TD's Canadian wealth businesses.
Job Overview
In this role, you will join a dynamic and collegial team of lawyers and support a broad range of business, product, regulatory, and client-related initiatives.
Your focus will be on TD's wealth distribution businesses, where you will:
work collaboratively with business, compliance, risk, operations, marketing, product and other legal partners to provide practical, risk-based and high-quality legal advice and support
support strategic initiatives and projects
lead and advise on regulatory developments
build and maintain relationships with internal business and control partners
review, draft, and negotiate contracts, client documentation, and disclosures
contribute to high-priority TD Legal initiatives
Job Requirements
You have a law degree from an accredited law school and are qualified to practice law in Ontario
You have 7+ years' experience practicing securities law at a major law firm, financial institution, wealth firm, large corporation, or regulator
You have strong experience advising on legal and regulatory issues relating to investment dealers, mutual fund dealers, wealth products, and financial services distribution
You have strong knowledge of Ontario securities law, including National Instrument 31-103 Registration requirements, exemptions and ongoing registrant obligations and the CIRO rules
You have superior analytical and communication skills, including an ability to communicate effectively with senior members of TD Bank's management team
You have strong judgment and the ability to identify legal, regulatory, and reputational risk in a practical business context
You can manage multiple deadlines and priorities while paying attention to detail
You bring professionalism, accountability, responsiveness and a collaborative approach to your work and can work independently or as part of a team
