We are looking for our next Quality Systems Specialist within our METHOCELTM and ETHOCELTM production facilities. The Quality Systems Specialist will be responsible for serving as an influential leader and technical resource to drive quality improvement initiatives and enable safe and efficient production of high-quality products. This role develops quality management system (QMS) expertise and then coaches, advises, and assists the operations team. The individual reports to the Quality Manager and is key in monitoring and improving the appropriate quality control metrics, operating discipline, training, and work processes.
Influential leadership is required of this position in the form of championing adherence to food safety guidelines, strong procedure use culture, and time spent in the field observing worker behavior. This role will also lead root-cause investigations in response to unplanned events, and with their cross-functional teams, propose and implement strong corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
This position is located in Midland, MI.
Compensation:
The current salary range for this role is estimated to be $100,307- $150,460. In addition, this position may also be eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation. The specific compensation offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide an effective interface between customers and the plant to ensure consistent high-quality service to customers.
- Act as key plant interface to build or enhance relationships, services and flow of information between the plant and the customer, purchasing, supply chain, research, product stewardship and commercial organization related to the product quality / regulatory requirements related to the quality management system.
- Ensure that product returns and non-conforming product are appropriately managed to prevent unintended use, including disposition.
- Monitor the effectiveness of the quality management system and communicate to quality leadership any improvement opportunities. For example, raw material quality and supplier assessments, etc.
- Communicate plant Operating Discipline system improvement opportunities to quality manager as appropriate (e.g. cGMP, EXCiPACT, ISO 9001:2015, and FSSC 22000).
- Provide consultation on applicable material handling guidelines and quality requirements for 3rd party service providers.
- Identify and lead improvement opportunities as determined through data analysis, customer audits, improvement projects, and other quality-related programs.
- Conduct audits of plants, labs, terminals, warehouses, contract manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, customers, etc. to ensure customer needs are met.
- Lead product quality problem solving efforts (i.e. Corrective Action Management Process, the Root Cause Investigation Process, including customer feedback, etc.).
- Works with R&D and technical services to develop and qualify novel products in the production facility that create value-added differentiation in the marketplace.
- Partners with CSR, Account Representatives and AD&I to understand and act on customer requirements
- As required, participates on and leads teams in his/her area of accountability.
- Provide training in responsible area as process SME to technical staff and operations as needed.
- Serve as the technical subject matter expert for quality systems and compliance.
What You’ll Need:
Education:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Chemistry discipline (General Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemisty, Physical Chemistry, etc.), Quality Assurance, Quality Management, or Quality Engineering required.
Experience:
- 3 yrs of quality assurance experience in a manufacturing environment required.
- Skilled in the use of MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Demonstrates strong integrity in placing safety, the environment, and quality ahead of production volume.
- Strong technical, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills are required to be successful in this job.
- Ability to influentially lead teams and individuals utilizing performance-based leadership or similar behavioral based science.
- Facilitative leadership and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks at one time.
- Highly motivated and results-driven individual with strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to interact with cross functional teams, engineering groups, plant operations, research and commercial organization and management.

Work Environment:
- This role spends approximately 95% of the time in an office environment and 5% of the time in the plant/lab environment.
Physical Demands:
- Sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods, using hands and fingers for typing and operating office equipment, and visual acuity for computer use and reading. Workers may also need to talk, hear, and occasionally lift or carry objects, with specific tasks like moving boxes or accessing file cabinets defining the need for movements such as reaching, stooping, or kneeling.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- This is a full-time position. Days and flexible hours of work are required to meet facility demands.
Business Travel:
- Occasional travel may be expected (international and domestic).
