Mechanical Engineering | Industrial Engineering internship: modular cleanroom framework

Introduction

Within ASML's Corporate Real Estate department, you will contribute to the future of flexible and scalable facility solutions. The team is responsible for developing, operating, and maintaining ASML's global facilities portfolio while supporting rapid business growth. One of the key challenges is creating additional cleanroom capacity quickly and efficiently when business needs change. During this internship, you will investigate how modular temporary cleanrooms can help ASML respond faster to capacity demands while balancing cost, sustainability, and operational performance. Your work will directly support future facility investment and deployment decisions across ASML locations.

Your assignment

In this internship, you will research the feasibility of modular temporary cleanrooms and develop a standardized framework for their deployment at ASML. The assignment combines engineering, facility management, business case development, stakeholder management, and strategic decision-making. Rather than creating a detailed technical design, you will evaluate existing solutions, define deployment conditions, and develop decision-making guidelines for future projects. Your main responsibilities will be:

• Research modular temporary cleanroom solutions and relevant industry developments
• Gather and analyze technical, operational, and business requirements
• Benchmark available solutions and identify their strengths and limitations
• Support the development of a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) assessment
• Evaluate potential deployment scenarios and business use cases
• Contribute to guidelines and recommendations for future implementation
• Present your findings and recommendations to stakeholders

This is a bachelor/master internship for a minimum of 4 months, minimum 4 days per week (2 days on-site). The latest preferred start date is February 2027, although an earlier start date can be discussed.This assignment is intended as a graduation project for HBO bachelor's students. University bachelor's and master's students are welcome to apply for a regular internship.

Your profile

To be suitable for the internship, you:

• Are pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Technical Business Administration, Architecture, Built Environment, Construction Management, or a related technical field

• Have an interest in cleanroom technology, facility engineering, construction, or technical infrastructure
• Are analytical and able to translate technical findings into practical recommendations
• Are proactive, independent, and comfortable working with multiple stakeholders
• Have experience with data analysis and business case development

This internship offers a unique opportunity to work on a project that can influence how ASML expands and adapts its facilities worldwide. You will collaborate with stakeholders from engineering, operations, projects, and asset management while gaining hands-on experience in a high-tech manufacturing environment.

Other requirements you need to meet:

• You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship, and you are at least 18 years old at the start of the internship;
• If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement);
• You attach your cover letter with a clear motivation on why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;
• You need to be located in the Netherlands to be perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your application shows the willingness to relocate.
