Responsibilities & Requirements

The House Supervisor RN Acute Care provides clinical leadership and administrative oversight for hospital operations during assigned shifts, ensuring safe, high-quality patient care and efficient resource utilization. This role serves as the primary administrative representative in the absence of senior management, coordinates staffing, and leads emergency responses to support optimal patient outcomes and operational reliability. Performs other duties as assigned. All job responsibilities are to be carried out in alignment with Kettering Health's mission, vision, values, and B Safe program.

Preferred Qualifications

Required Education:

 Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing program

 

Preferred Education:

 Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) 

 

 

 

Required Work Experience:

 Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting

 

Preferred Work Experience:

 Prior experience in a supervisory, charge nurse, or leadership role in an acute care environment

 

 

Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:

 Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Ohio

 Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

 Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (may be obtained within 6 months of hire, if not current at time of hire) 

 

Skills

 Demonstrated clinical expertise in acute care nursing practices

 Strong leadership, decision-making, and critical thinking abilities

 Effective verbal and written communication skills

 Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks in a dynamic environment 

 Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic) 

 Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., HIPAA and other regulatory agencies)

 Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and crisis situations

 

Essential Functions

 Oversee hospital operations during assigned shifts, acting as the administrative representative in the absence of senior management.

 Assess and allocate nursing staff based on patient acuity, census, and unit needs to ensure safe and effective patient care. 

 Lead and coordinate responses to emergency situations, including patient codes and disaster events, ensuring appropriate resource deployment and communication. 

 Serve as a clinical resource and provide guidance to nursing staff in complex or high-risk patient care situations.

 Monitor patient flow, including admissions, discharges, and transfers, to optimize bed utilization and care transitions. 

 Facilitate communication and collaboration between departments to support cohesive operations and resolve operational challenges.

 Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, including documentation and reporting standards.

 Investigate and address patient, family, or staff concerns, escalating issues as appropriate to maintain a safe and supportive environment.

 Participate in incident reporting, root cause analysis, and quality improvement initiatives as assigned.

 Support onboarding and orientation of new staff, providing training and mentorship as needed. 

 Maintain confidentiality of patient and organizational information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policy.

 Perform other duties as assigned to support patient care and hospital operations.

 Provide shift-based leadership and guidance to clinical and non-clinical staff, prioritizing patient safety and operational effectiveness.

 Assign and adjust staff assignments based on real-time needs, supporting team members in problem-solving and conflict resolution.

 Mentor and support staff development by providing feedback, coaching, and facilitating learning opportunities. 

 Serve as a resource for policy interpretation and compliance, ensuring consistent application of standards across units. 

 Participate in performance feedback processes for staff, as appropriate, and escalate performance or conduct issues to the appropriate manager
