Job Description
The Eye Clinic Patient Access and Scheduling Representative is the first point of contact for patients and plays a key role in delivering an exceptional patient experience. This position is responsible for scheduling appointments, patient registration, check-in and check-out, insurance verification, charge entry, and front desk operations. The representative ensures accurate demographic and financial records, supports clinic workflow, and maintains organized paper medical records in a fast-paced ophthalmology clinic.
Key Responsibilities
Welcome patients and provide exceptional customer service throughout the registration and scheduling process.
Schedule appointments based on provider availability, subspecialty needs, referrals, and patient acuity.
Complete patient registration, verify demographic and insurance information, and maintain accurate financial and clinical records.
Verify insurance eligibility, collect co-pays, explain financial responsibilities, and reconcile daily payments.
Manage incoming phone calls, patient messages, referrals, and appointment requests.
Complete charge entry and support billing, referrals, and other clinic administrative functions.
Create, maintain, and organize paper patient charts to ensure records are available for clinic visits.
Collaborate with providers and staff to maximize clinic schedules, support patient flow, and maintain efficient operations.
Promote quality, patient safety, customer service, and compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or GED.
Customer service experience or successful completion of the UH Patient Access Representative/Patient Scheduler Apprentice Program.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency with computer hardware and software.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a hospital, medical office, business office, or insurance setting.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Familiarity with health insurance processes.
College coursework.
