The Senior Investigator, High Risk Team, AML FIU ( Anti-Money Laundering Financial Intelligence Unit) is responsible for conducting comprehensive reviews of higher-risk customers and complex relationships to identify and assess potential financial crime and money laundering risks. The role applies sound judgment, critical thinking, and knowledge of AML requirements to evaluate customer information, transactional activity, and other relevant risk factors.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct thorough AML investigations and enhanced due diligence reviews involving higher-risk customers and complex relationships.
- Analyze customer profiles, ownership structures, expected activity, transactional patterns, and supporting documentation to identify potential AML risks or concerns.
- Assess information from internal and external sources and clearly document investigative findings, rationale, and recommendations.
- Identify unusual or potentially suspicious activity and escalate concerns in accordance with applicable AML policies and procedures.
- Complete assigned investigations accurately and within established service-level expectations.
- Prepare clear, concise, and well-supported case documentation that demonstrates sound investigative reasoning and supports the recommended outcome.
- Collaborate with internal partners and stakeholders to obtain information, resolve gaps, and support effective risk-based decision-making.
- Provide guidance and knowledge sharing to investigators and contribute to consistent investigative practices across the team.
- Identify emerging trends, recurring issues, and opportunities to strengthen investigative processes and controls.
- Maintain a strong understanding of evolving AML requirements, financial crime typologies, and internal policies and procedures.
- Support a culture of accountability, quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- Typically, between 3-5 years of relevant experience and a post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong AML investigation and enhanced due diligence experience
- Demonstrated analytical and investigative skills
- Ability to assess complex information and make sound risk-based recommendations; strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent attention to detail
- The ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
